Oh, Brooklyn, honey! It looks like you may have gotten one right this time! Sort of!

T: I hate it.

Lo: Shut up, you big face! I love it!

T: You’re the big face.

So you can see why we’re throwing it out to a vote. Lo thinks it’s striking on her, but even he can admit the changes made to the bodice (black lining) don’t actually improve the look. Tom thinks the lining is not the issue here; that it’s far more concerning that the dress – in both versions – is sporting a highly incongruous pair of sleeves that look like they were ripped off the costume of a Grease 2 cast member who just happened to wander by. Lo thinks there’s more good than bad in this look and T thinks, well, the exact opposite of that. It’s a marvel we’re still together after 16 years.

Anyway, anything that makes me forget myself and exclaim aloud to no one in particular is either fabulous or horrible. I’m going with the latter. If this had been sleeveless or had sleeves that were black or white, I’d vote in. Those Goldfinger arms ruin it.

IN. I’m in the (very tiny) minority that goes with LO. I like that they took the Morticia Adams silhouette and did something different, and I don’t even hate the gold lame sleeves. I understand why she didn’t want the cut outs and the black fabric underneath is all kinds of wrong but if they had found something different to do, it would have much better. Her hair is pretty boring, and an updo with some modest earrings would have been much more flattering.

OUT. For the C3PO arms. The changes made to the bodice are not distracting at first. Then I scrolled down and saw the runway shot, scrolled back up to confirm that there were not Buffalo Bill style surgical cuts in Brooklyn’s bodice, and now all I can see are the damn black torso incisions.

I could live with the sleeves until the balck lining was added, then it made the sleeve look like too much. The black lining, on it’s own is fine, but it took the dress in another direction; to more of a crisp look which the gold then ruins.

this was a dress made for the hooterless. BD, here, is not precisely over-endowed but a person cant wear this dress as is if that person is endowed at all.

problem w/ the fix is that it ruins the dress. its whole essence is thrown off, if you will, the lines are now all screwy & wrinkled & go from being something more like geometric op art finish fetish to something more like a squished abstract mess. add the sleeves to that & all cohesion is lost, those sleeves do wind up looking like they were hastily ripped off someone at the last minute & applied to a dress that doesnt want them. perhaps to hide her trackmarks? she’s a cutter? but we know thats not true from the black lace diaper dress. so theres no reason at all for them to exist [sleeves or diaper dress, but anyway].

I think the filling in the cutouts was a smart move and the fit is okay. The problem is that the dress with those sleeves is just plain old hiddy. Chop off those arms and I really don’t have a problem with this look.

Out. Tom is EXACTLY right. (whew! after going with Lo the last few times I was fearing for my judgement). The sleeves combine with the chevron-esque cutouts on the bodice to give her too much resemblance to a hood ornament.
