Claire Danes for ASOS Magazine

We are very, very confused.

You see, Claire Danes is stylish and wears clothes well. ASOS sells pretty clothes. So why is Claire Danes on the cover of ASOS magazine dressed like a 50-year-old lesbian bartender in Key West?

And hey, we love 50-year-old lesbian bartenders, but they don’t normally wind up modeling clothes on magazine covers. They do, however, make very good cocktails.

If it was like sexy-butch androgyny we’d be all over that, but she literally looks like she should be either riding a bike in a PRIDE parade or washing her car. Very strange styling choices for a retailer to make.

I have to say though, the first thing I noticed was her face, which looks AMAZING. I don’t know what it is, but she always ends up looking harsh on the red carpet and to me her make-up never looks right. In these pictures, despite the basement t-shirt, she looks great.

    As someone else mentioned, it was really her eyes that jumped out at me. Obviously, no one’s going to look as good in person as they do in an airbrushed photo, but that wasn’t really my point. She’s a beautiful woman and I always find no matter how great she looks on the red-carpet, she always wears heavy make-up especially around the eyes that I think ends up looking a little harsh and over-done.

  I’m thinking pretty much the same thing. The clothes are uninteresting, or horrifying (acid washed jeans). And I disagree with TLo. I don’t think she wears clothes all that well.
  
  Also, what little I’ve seen of her acting hasn’t impressed me. I don’t despise her. She’s not on my list of Celebrities I Irrationally Hate. She just bores the hell out of me.

I am not a fan of these clothes. They all look out dated to me, as if they were bought, separately, at 8 different Goodwill stores by someone assembling a collection from purchases at low-end thrift stores. (Hey! it’s a reality t.v. challenge!), and this spread didn’t make me change my mind. She, however, is very pretty.

ugh… those are horrendous. I love how it looks like the photographer caught her coming out of the dressing room shaking her head and laughing at the styling and that’s the photo they ended up using.

I may not be coveting the clothes, but those pictures made me really happy. They felt sunny and warm. And as a gal who likes gals, friendly-lesbian-bartender in the sunshine took me to a cozy place. She almost makes that pseudo-aloha rose print shirt look like a good idea.
