It’s funny. The writeup for this editorial is all about how it’s “ultra feminine,” which isn’t how we saw it at all when we first looked at the pics.

Which isn’t to say there’s anything UNfeminine about any of these pictures, but when we looked at them, the first word that came to mind was “edgy.” We mean that in the sense that they dolled her up in some very pretty, yet unconventional dresses; the kind of dresses we like to characterize as “tough to pull off.” Granted, a lot of the pictures are closeups, so you can’t really see much of the clothes except the parts near her face, but she’s working the hell out of that Theory gown and we would have considered that beyond her somewhat limited style capabilities.

Still, she looks great throughout and all credit to Marie Claire for giving us some interesting dresses to look at.

I love that D&G dress on her. It’s a good blend of the feminine that she wears so easily and the rocker-chick she was trying so hard (and so often failing) to pull off. It looks great.

In that last one she looks like Keira Knightley with a few much-needed pounds. But why did they give her eye bags?

Maybe it’s just me, but I think the Theory dress looks terrible. So drab and misshapen. Doesn’t do her any favors, or she it.

  I also thought she looked terrible in the Theory dress–it looks like ill-fitting, poorly-conceived hardshell plastic, and she looks completely dead-eyed and entirely divorced from her surroundings.

  I think the Theory dress is the same one Piper Perabo wore to some awards show (Golden Globes, maybe? I’m pretty sure I remember TLo covering it). It really didn’t work on her either. I think the best that can be said for this gown is that it is “interesting.”

Leighton looks beautiful in these shots…except the makeup under her eyes looks like bags.

The Theysken’s Theory dress looks great and dramatic in the photo shoot..that’s where it should stay! Hideous and drab on the model. Some dresses are not meant to be worn in public.

she looks great in the theyskens dress. though while i am, oddly, glad they put her in a bra she, & it, might probably have been better served in some sort of slip or lining or camisole or other less breaky-uppy type thing. she looks great in all of this, actually. then again, i am really sick today & she has always been the one i liked best of her & her compatriots so that may be befogging my judgment. then again, no.

I kind of hate the Theory dress, both on her and on the model.

I think she kind of looks like Penelope Cruz in some of these pictures, especially in the black and white shot.

I think these dresses look kinda of awful on the models. The only reason they look good in the shoot is because of her face.

The yellow dress looks like a BAD home sewing project. Pulling it open for underboob cleavage does not help. It is a dog of a dress. The D&G dress is great, and looks great on her. It is very flattering. The Theory dress reminds me of a costume, more than a ball gown. It is intended to be a nude color, which makes it look icky on the model. When LM wears it in darker light, it looks better, but it is long sleeved, and very severely plain. What look were they going for here? Does she need one of those cone shaped princess hats with a scarf coming out of the end? . The Vionnet dress is spectacular, and it is a shame the more of it is not shown in the LM picture. Over all, LM looks good, but in spite of some of the clothes.

I hate the yellow dress. She’s working that Theysken Theory dress for sure. The D&G is great. The Vionnet is not my cup of tea at all as it looks like somebody put a dress over a separate and unrelated dress.

The Theory gown is just weird looking to me. Without a bra it would be crass, with the bra it just looks weird.

I saw the magazine in stores over the weekend and thought she looked really pretty on the cover. The Theory dress is pretty but I wish they would have lined the top rather than have the bra show through. The Vionnet is an interesting dress. I’d love to see if a non model could actually pull that off.

Agreed…she’s not quite pulling it off. As you say, these dresses are hard to pull off at baseline. As is the whole uber-feminine trend this spring (like the Louis Vuitton candy pastels….too sweet for a lot of us). I fault the stylist. None of these dresses are in a palette or cut that really enhance her beauty.

The Theory gown is the one I like the least. When I saw the photo in the magazine, I thought it was so unflattering. The hem is about 12 inches too long and the sleeves are slightly bunched up and wrinkled, but they might have done that intentionally so that the sleeves wouldn’t look too long.
