Darlings, before we all dive into the deep end of the Project Runway finale pool tonight, let’s all take a moment and find our center. Here’s your pretty for the day, Kate Moss doing what Kate Moss does best: modeling couture at the Ritz Paris, for Vogue.

J’ADORE the shot at the restaurant table in the Alexis Mabille. People love to hate her but she’s a world-class model for a reason.

The clothes are all amazing, and for the most part so are the photos. But the first shot is so silly/stupid, like some 5th grader’s idea of what a high fashion photo would look like.

i so much prefer photo spreads with actual models rather than the celeb of the month….i am not a huge fan of Kate Moss, but there is no arguing with her abilities in front of the camera, fabulous….

  To me, it looks like an ad campaign for a French hotel with the scope and elegance of the rooms accentuated by a woman in a pretty dress. In most of the shots, I looked at the fabulous decor before I even noticed she was there.
  
  Edited to add: After reading the comments below regarding the temporary closing of The Ritz, I see that the feature truly was about the hotel.

The Chanel coat is a dream and the plaid Dior looks like Peggy Olsen couture (in a good way). I’d love to see JJ in the red Dior, with the right makeup.

The restaurant shot would be truly impressive. So much to get lost in but the eye goes right to Kate Moss.

It’s interesting how they styled her to match her surroundings. In the first picture, she’s posed practically the same way as the painting behind her. Also, I would love to see someone wear that rose shaped hat to the Kentucky Derby.

  The actual editorial’s a bit more nostalgic. The Ritz is about to undergo remodeling, so it’s kind of one last homage to it before it goes under the knife. Features all kinds of pix of the Ritz staff. It doesn’t actually have the Let Them Eat Cake vibe in its context.

Every shot was a show stopper, except for the last one, and it isn’t her fault. Alexander McQueen has a bizarre sense of reality and the whole blue outfit was awful. The dress is probably okay, but the crazy hat and the funky shoes took it out of serious consideration. It looks like a smurf hat. What is wrong with him?

Most of the clothes are lovely and the black flower coat looks great on the model. But overall I hate her pics. That first one in red and in the black floral. Ugh her facial expressions Suck

Who hates Kate Moss? I don’t understand at all. Why? I will stop and gaze over a Kate Moss (or Gisele Bundchen) spread every single time. In terms of fashion pictorials, no one beats Moss. It’s not accounted for by her classic good looks, either. She’s atypical in all ways except she is skinny. Moss is magic.

I finally read my Vogue the other day, even though it’s been sitting in a pile waiting for a while now, but I LOVE this spread. It was so sweet the way they wanted to honor the Ritz Paris before it closes for renovation. There were some great little images and interviews of the wait-staff and culinary staff. It was amazing. I looooved how many people they interviewed about their time spent at the hotel. The pictures are a perfect complement to the article itself

  I’m pretty sure people hate her because for years she was shockingly (grotesquely) thin. When people criticized her for it and said that it would lead young girls to eating disorders, her answer to that was basically that everyone else is too fat and they should stop eating if they want to be thin and pretty like her. She could get pretty nasty about it, as I recall. I believe she has softened over the years, and now she looks far less grossly thin. As someone who has fought (and conquered) anorexia, I am glad to see her looking healthier. I can only hope it is an outward manifestation of a new attitude and lifestyle.

    Hmmm, did she actually say that much? The thing that’s always struck me about Moss is how seldom she gives interviews. She was a thin teenager, but she’s small-boned and her weight always seemed pretty stable. Some people are ectomorphs and she’s one of them. I don’t think she was “grossly thin”, though I think other women at the same weight and height would have been–it’s a question of body build. I have a thin daughter–and though she’s 11, she has gotten plenty of comments about eating and being “skin and bones” over the years–but if you look at her very slender hands, you can see it’s how she’s built. She’s going to be that skinny teen who will, no doubt, fill out a bit later. It’s pretty normal.
    
    THat said, all the more power to you for overcoming your anorexia. Good health to you.

      She went through some phases of being so thin it was scary, but so did I before I ever became anorexic. Everyone in my family starts out just willowy thin. One of my aunts once referred to my cousins playing in a sprinkler as looking like “a summer day at a TB ward.” I’m sure Ms. Moss is naturally thin, but there were times it got worrying. Being naturally thin was how I was able to hide my disorder until I got down to 84 pounds. People thought I was anorexic long before I ever was. I hope your daughter can hold her head up high knowing that there’s nothing wrong with her. Kids can be very cruel. My niece is going through the same thing. It’s never easy being different, and no one has sympathy for the skinny kids.

        My kid seems to let comments roll off at this point, but she’s not quite at the age where looks become so damn important. She has, already, though, a very strong sense of style, which has the weird effect of throwing other kids off just a bit.
        
        I think with Moss, she started so young that she was really in adolescence–wasn’t she 14 when her career started? So she’d shot up, but hadn’t filled out–no hips. Later on, in her 20s, she developed both hips and thighs.
        
        With Moss, I tend to think cigarettes and drugs had more to do with her thinness than an eating order, per se–as I say, her weight has been reasonably steady with a gradual gain as she’s aged. Her longevity as a model is striking.

How OCD is it that it really, really bugs me that her flower-holding arm does not mimic the curve of the corresponding arm in the painting behind her? Though it’s the photographer’s fault if he didn’t get that shot & the editor’s fault if he got it and they didn’t use it – I’m not blaming her. And no doubt this was the better shot, overall. Still bugs.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed this. Love the over-the-top glam staging, the beautiful excess of the clothing, and the job she does convincing me that all of this silliness is just the dernier cri.

She has a way of making the runway models look insipid. She really inhabits clothes. Loved the editorial, though you left out my favorite photo–of Kate posing on a mantelpiece, the lit electric candelabra she replaced on the ground below her. She’s in a red silk grecian-style gown by Giambattista Valli.

Sigh, I miss models on the covers of magazines–it’s just one damn celebrity portrait after another. JLo’s wasn’t bad, but I miss Fashion with a capital F.

How on earth could they have this editorial and put JLo on the cover? When will Vogue stand up for models? Most actresses, including all of those who have appeared on Vogue’s cover in recent years, cannot model. Witness Mila Kunis’s stiff-necked ads, Rachel Weisz’s embarrassing Bulgari campaign, or Julianne Moore in any of her many awkward commercial outings. This is just wrong. Models have skills that actresses don’t and this reliance on celebrities is smothering fashion.

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaate comment, but I just had to come over and say that what I love most about Kate is that she is always shamelessly Kate, no matter how much people don’t like that. I respect and encourage that, though it helps that she can also model the hell out of everything. Go severe-faced waif, go!
