Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012 Collection

Taking its inspiration from the tradition of Sicilian Baroque, the Dolce & Gabbana Fall Winter 2013 women’s collection offered up golden embroidery that called to mind mirrors and frames, prints inspired by tapestry and paintings, and, as is their way, lots and lots of lace. The result is romantic, archaic, feminine, sexy, and Sicilian to the core. There are some truly eye-poppingly gorgeous looks here.

  After I posted, I thought about it and realized that of course we will never see sleeves and jackets and heavy materials like these chosen by stylists. It’s summertime all year round in the world of celebrity dressing.

Would love to see this collection not styled so poorly. The hats over the Heidi hair (the book, not Ms. Klum) and the earrings and the brightly colored bags (which are kind of cute) and the kneesocks and…just STOP.

  You know–I didn’t notice the styling because the clothes themselves are so opulent and lush and beautiful they commanded my full attention. Going back to pay attention to the styling…of course you’re right. Too much on too much. But the clothes themselves are a wonderful fantasy. Some of them are even wearable.

I am seriously in love with the vast majority of this. The short shorts make me wince a little behind my eyes. And the socks with heels make me want to scream out loud NOOOOOOOO! But the shapes, embellishments, colors, and execution are superlative. Bravo to Dolce and Gabbana!

I’m not usually a lace gal, but I like a lot of these dresses. The styling with the socks is odd, but the dresses themselves could work for a lot of celebs. The socks do read Alexa Chung, but I think Rhianna could wear the 1rst dress on the 4th row. My favs are the ones on the last row.

These are beautiful. Along with the Sicilian influence, I can see Hungarian and Frida Kahlo in some of the pieces. Impractical for regular wear, but beautiful nonetheless.

Some of this is gorgeous though I doubt that 99.9% of the people attracted to the looks will wear black underwear under a white lace dress. There is also some rather ridiculous (3rd row center) stuff. I’m guessing that many of these pieces will look much better without the over the top stying (hair garlands, gigantic earrings, lace socks) or as separates

OH MY GOD!!!! I would pay serious money to fly to whatever city I need to see this walk by in person. This is just EX-KAWIZ-IT. That leopard cape over the white lace dress is insane. The puffy lace shirt over the high-waisted black pencil skirt: gorgeous. It will pain me deeply when I wind up seeing that first outfit in the second row on the likes of some dingbat Hollywood girl when it belongs only on a tiny Russian poet. I don’t think much of this translates to real women/real world wear but it made for a wondrous runway show. Almost all of the proportions are perfect, but I hate to see what that knee socks situation would wind up looking like when an ordinary gal tries it.

Merriam-Webster defines baroque as a style of artistic expressions that includes “contrasting elements often conveying a sense of drama, movement, and tension”. The patterned dresses look both baroque and gypsy to me. I’ve seen similar designs in cotton at the fabric store. And wondered what someone would make with them. But these certainly are not cotton.

Knee socks with shorter skirts – another granny look. My great-aunt wore those in the 1970s! But her knee socks were lacy like this.

The lacy granny leggings (8th row – Middle) made me chuckle. A kind of Madonna wanna be look.

I love the fabrics but not anything that screams granny.

OMFG! I am dying here. This collection is so delicioso that my mouth is watering. That black and gold cape? Favoloso! The prints are gorgeous: lush and filled with amazing, unexpected color combinations. The lace is an elegant nod to traditional Sicilian costume (I could have lived without those knee socks, but a minor detail) and overall, I am ready to sail off to my palazzo overlooking Palermo where I can stroll the loggia in one of these designs. Molto bello!!

You know the classic “Who is this girl and where is she going?” thing? As I scrolled through, I kept thinking that if I saw this girl on the street I would be very tempted to follow her until I found out. She’s like a walking museum – tapestries and huge gilt frames included.

Agree with Isabel about the lacy leggings; they definitely made me smile. Those were fun to rock, the first time around.
