Torn on this one. It’s Givenchy. Dress is very beautiful. But, darlings, it DOES NOT FIT HER IN THE CHEST. It looks at least a size too large. In one of her red carpet interviews, she said she only chose this dress THIS MORNING. Clearly, there was no time to alter it to actually fit her. Bad fit doesn’t show so much in these photos, but in the videos, it’s so clear the bodice just is way too loose and sloppy on her. It was gapping all over the place, and just looked ill-fitting and sloppy.

The back bracing is interesting (a fully-acceptable term — think of it as clever reinforcement), tho’ it looks a little bathing suit-like; but without it, the sides might’ve hung like Michael Costello’s last dress on PR…and it’, too. The bodice is a little droopy for sure, but when paired with the lacy detail, hair and makeup it has a vintage look.

I’m gonna split my vote: Creepy Bride – IN. Love the weird floaty decaying purity elegance of it, handwaving away the less-than-perfect fit since (a) she picked it out that morning, and (b) she still looks better than the model), and don’t mind the lack of jewelry — her hair, eyes, brows and lips are so dramatic and arresting that I don’t mind. I actually kind of love that everything from the neck down is filmy and insubstantial. She looks like Miss Havisham in the Val Lewton adaptation of “Great Expectations” that sadly exists only in my mind (or possibly the Oscar Wilde/Aubrey Beardsley stage production).

Probably wouldn’t be anything near an in for any other wearer, and probably not an in for any viewer who doesn’t already love that aesthetic, but for this woman in this aesthetic at this moment, IN IN IN oh dear me yes IN. IN. Big in. The front bodice is very reminiscent to me of the ’20s/30s but just reminiscent – not a period piece, and she has the look (meaning, lack of giant boobs and a small frame) for that reference.

If I have a criticism it’s that a skosh (or two skoshes) less fullness at the hem/train would have been more appropriate as well as harmonizing better with the brace-y look of the lower back.
