Michael Kors Fall 2012 Collection
At his heart, Michael Kors is a classic, old-time showman and it’s never more evident than when he’s mounting a runway show. The vibe in the tent is intensely high-energy beforehand, as celebrity after celebrity files in and takes their seats, to the lightning-storm flashes of hundreds of cameras. The show always starts closer to “on time” than any other show of the week (because famously, NO ONE starts on time during Fashion Week); 65 looks are briskly walked out, several at a time (there were never less than 6 looks on the runway at once), the whole thing’s over in 12 minutes and the master himself takes a full walk around the length of the runway, basking in the glow like the rockstar he is. After that, it almost doesn’t matter what the collection looks like, but he’s too much of a star not to send down something beautiful and exciting. The theme was clearly outdoorsy, but instead of last season’s safari vibe, there was much more of a “camping with all your glamorous wealthy friends” feel here. Lorenzo, ever the sucker for a man in plaid, practically whimpered throughout the show. It’s not hard to guess which pieces we’re fantasy-shopping for.
And as per usual, he ended the show with a gaggle of gorgeously soignée gowns, practically begging for an Oscar nominee to come and fill them. A fun show full of fun clothes, which also manages the trick of being chic at the same time; the classic Kors formula.
