Jennifer Lopez for V Magazine

I am no straight boy, but I know awful when I see it. Why would anyone want to dress Jennifer Lopez to make her look like she had–a penis under there? The crotch-grab shot is beyond disturbing. 

Um … weird and a little frightening.  Not sexy.

Well, I think its hot… But that’s a bi-girl perspective. I know a few dudes who would be into it, but overall I’m confused. What was the purpose of this shoot? Mixing up the diva image?

Underboob is no one’s friend and the protection thing is just odd. It’s a good idea for a shoot and her hair and face styling is intriguing but it falls apart on a closer look.

 I didn’t know she could do androgynous so well. She should try this again just with a better stylist.

Disturbing.  I’d rather see her go full masculine (like Lady Gaga’s alter ego a year ago) than do this vamping hermaphrodite thing.

Straight woman here, but from where I’m sitting there isn’t too much sexy going on.  Maybe the picture in the Armani shorts can be construed as sexy, but the rest are just kind of strange. 

Google futanari. If you dare. There are plenty of people who do find this sort of thing hot. I can even admit that I often love some good genderfuck sexy times.

As for this particular photoset, JLo has never done anything to excite me below the belt, and she’s not doing it now either.

Yeeaah, not really.  I mean its not that its unattractive, its just ridiculous.  The focus is clearly on, I’m going to call it the crotch pocket for lack of a better term, and is just unnerving and distracting.

What gets me is the insinuation that a women has to have a “penis” to fight back.

I think she looks fierce! What a brilliant idea to dress her against the normal JLo look! Me likey….and it’s sexy as hell. She’s a gorgeous woman.

The androgynous thing usually works for me and I have to say I love the hair and face, but everything below the waist is just too much for me.

This editorial is pure concentrated awful.

Has anyone considered that maybe they weren’t trying to make her look sexy under the hetero male gaze? I think it’s a really interesting editorial and I applaud her for doing something so different. It’s the best modeling I’ve ever seen out of her.

It would be hot if it weren’t for the bottom…thingy. It looks like a diaper rather than…whatever they expected it too look like (a woman with a big dick?).

As a straight male interpreter, I’m going to go with no. The codpiece boxing shorts are killing any sexiness for the straight male. I think they’re going for tough and sexy, not scary, but they totally missed the mark. 
Can’t speak for the lesbian crowd (are they even in V’s demographic?) but she really doesn’t look that hot butch-y either, which I imagine they were going for. (Call Michelle Rodriguez next time, she does hot butch all the time . Or Ali’s daughter whose first name I forget.)

I’d be into it if they nixed the overly-prominent codpiece.

I don’t understand everyone’s problem, I guess? I mean, we all know JLo doesn’t have a penis. I find the pictures kind of funny. I don’t find them “yuck” or “disturbing” or any of the other words being tossed around in ye old comment section. I think her hair is actually kind of cute, and enjoy seeing her out of her divatastic mode. As to the sex appeal, I have no opinion on that. I just think people are reacting rather strongly to someone playing dress-up.

Underboob + fake dick will never = anything other than vulgar to me. She sure doesn’t look like she’s having any trouble getting over the loss of her vampire husband.

She looks a bit like Cindy Crawford in some of these photos. I’m not sure she looks hot. She looks beautiful and quite shiny. The underboob pic is sort of funny, like she is wearing one of her kids’ diapers and t-shirt.  Although, there are those would find that hot, I guess. Ick.

This is incredibly weird. And frankly, I completely /love it/ for that.
 I’m certainly intrigued and want to crack open the magazine to find out what the hell this is all about. There’s an edginess and an intensity and a completely bizarre adrogeny, all while she is bringing it with her face. It reminds me of the youtube video that shows girls taking on the male roles of men on a night out and gender flipping the scenario through changing postures/provocations.

I love the strength in her face here, but the rest, not doing it for me in anyway.

The crotch thing is bizzare, but everything above the neck is amazing! She hasn’t had a new look in a long, long time, and the strong brows and butch styling really play well off her small, soft features.

Straight Husband says it’s not doing it for him. The leather codpiece diaper is particularly off-putting. It seems like a very narrow population who is going to find this anything but strange and unflattering.

I’m…confused

I love some good gender bending, but this isn’t it. If she was styled to be much more androgynous then it might be at least intriguing, but as it is she just looks like a tough chick with a penis. It’s unsettling and off-putting. Oscar de la Hoya was actually much closer to the mark.

Frankly I’m surprised she agreed to this.

Straight guy here. I wouldn’t normally discuss on this site whether particular photos or models are “hot” but since you asked … these photos aren’t targeted at me. She’s done plenty of other photos where I have found her to be attractive but I’m not personally into adrogyny much. That said, I thought the photos were interesting, not as boring as most celebrity spreads,and didn’t try to infantilize her as seems to happen so often in photoshoots of female celebrities.

As a woman who has done martial arts/boxing…heck, as a woman in general…these photos confuse and frighten me. They possibly offend me as well but right now I am too busy being confused and frightened.

I like the weird juxtaposition between the crazy codpiece action she has going on and the top. Either way, gets you talking.

Are nontraditional people not allowed to be sexy? Is nobody allowed to find people with ambiguous biology (for lack of a better phrase) sexy?  

Further, are women only sexy if they are dressed in traditional feminine attire? I echo others who are expressing their dismay at some of the comments on what is ostensibly a gay-friendly site.

What a daring shoot for any woman to take on, famous actress or not!

This is not a culture that likes to blur too many gender lines. There are specifically marked areas where it’s okay but most people have no idea how to react to someone who isn’t firmly planted in one gender. I mean, just look at the comments here: “scary”, “frightening”, “weird”, “beyond disturbing”, “gross”, and so on.

I don’t mean this as a critique — those are very natural reactions. But it’s a fascinating insight to where people’s lines are. Notice you don’t see comments like this on the RuPaul posts.

It might be an interesting discussion: why are these photos more disturbing than the drag queens we cheer on every week? Is it because she appears to be a woman with male genitalia or is it because we are more comfortable with men dressing as women than the other way around?

I am a huge fan of the “hot women posing as boxers” editorial genre, but the pictures with the ?crotchguard? are Hideous.  Take the out, or hell, just crop the pictures to be from the waist up, and yes, JLo is suddenly making my little dykey heart pitterpat in a way she hasn’t previously.
