Gwyneth Paltrow for Harper’s Bazaar Magazine

Some gal who bears a passing resemblance to Gwyneth Paltrow is on the cover of Harper’s.

Gwyneth Paltrow featured in the March 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine photographed by Terry Richardson.

Pretty girl. We wonder who she is. Must suck for her to look almost, but not quite, like a famous Oscar-winning actress. Near-Gwyn is as good as real-Gwyn at dropping the slightly irritating sound bites, though:

On aging: “I’ll take my wrinkles. I don’t like the Botox thing.”

On her diet when she’s not detoxing: “I eat whatever I want. I like bread and cheese and wine, and that makes my life fun and enjoyable. I don’t really like eating that early, so I usually just have coffee and then a couple of bites of their leftovers, like granola and yogurt or scrambled eggs.”

On her brand: “Everything I’ve done has been completely organic, and that’s why the brand is a strong brand, because there is no ulterior motive behind it.”

On her husband, Chris Martin: “He’s very communicative, which is rare for a British man. If I’m in L.A. for three days working, then my husband does the school run; it’s always one of us.”

On handling the kids: “If I’m in L.A. for three days working, then my husband does the school run; it’s always one of us, although they do have a nanny for the children. She’s French, so she’s teaching them French, and their previous nanny was Spanish, so they’re fluent in Spanish.”

We think it’s great that Gwynnie is pitching a sultry look. Some of these dresses look pretty amazing on her.

Lanvin dress, $4,165. Charlotte Olympia heels, $1,195. Ring, Paltrow’s own.

Dress, $3,550, and shoes, $1,725, Versace.

Dress, $3,000, Anthony Vaccarello. Sandals, $1,350, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci.

Dress, $2,985, layered tops (worn under), $1,710-$2,160, and sandals, $1,350, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci.

Gown, $11,400, and shoes by special order, Alexander McQueen.

But this is the first picture that actually looks like her.

Dress, $2,640, Blumarine. Necklace, $9,500, Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co.

Are we being picky? On paper, all this sultriness should work, but then we look at that face and it just looks … odd to us. Her face looks too made up and her hair looks like a wig.

It’s funny. It seems like editors and stylists always want to do this to Gwynnie; make her over. But we think her looks and persona (blonde, thin, and WASPish) can only be interpreted so many ways before you’re getting too far away from what makes that look appealing in the first place. Great pictures; great dresses; but only a couple times does she actually look like herself.
