Why does Jessica Findlay look like Wednesday Addams got into her mother’s lipstick? Her face is BLINDINGLY WHITE. It’s sad because I think she is outrageously beautiful.

I’ve seen Joanne in several interviews, and she always brings it. Maybe it’s overcompensating for dowdy uniforms on the show, but I love her.

Elizabeth is flashing back to her 80s heyday. She’s still got the body for it, but the style is dated.

hahaha love the commentary.  Interesting how the most gorgeous of the trio looks the worst.  What’s up with that hideous lip color!  Arrrrgh~

Is Jessica Brown-Findlay in the Harry Potter films? She looks like she is wearing dress robes.

Good heavens, Jessica looks like a contemporary Mary Poppins. All she needs is the umbrella.

I like Joanne’s dress, but she needs much better makeup.

Lady Grantham looks seriously deranged.

Elizabeth McGovern looks like she tried to use the curling iron from DA herself. She should have asked Joanne Froggatt for help, although Miss Frogratt was clearly too busy looking FABULOUS to bother with her. Michelle Williams, take a good look at McGovern and let this be your own personal Horrible Warning of what twee dressing and posing looks like in your future! I can only hope Jessica Brown-Findlay wore that overcoat because at the last minute she realized how hideous her dress was, and the tomato lips were an effort to distract from both.

Quick, someone get Sybil some blotting papers. And Cora, oh my god, why do you keep doing this with your face? Don’t you see any of the pictures they take of you? Your next role will be young Mrs. Rochester before they locked her in the tower.

I’m not sure they do have stylists in the UK. Or if they do, they aren’t very good.

Does Jessica Brown-Findlay play the “pretty” sister?  I’m honestly not even being snarky — I don’t recognize her.  I assume she plays Sybil, but from these pics (and Joanne Froggatt’s), I can only say that the casting director for Downton Abbey has a lot of vision.

Every photo I have seen of Elizabeth McGovern gives her that ineffable combination of prissy, modest and batshit crazy, and until T and Lo pointed out the chin-tucking, closed mouth pose, I couldn’t quite figure it out. Elizabeth, chin up and show a bit of tooth in a lovely smile. And wear closed-toe shoes with black stockings, please.

Jessica Brown-Findlay: having spent time in England, I can testify that lots of young women dress like this. It’s sort of the fashion equivalent of shabby chic mixed with a healthy dose of classic English eccentricity. But this is just a little bit too Belles of St. Trinian’s even for me.

As for Joanne Froggatt, well, I think we all know THIS gal has no intention of being typecast. And evidently, she HAS heard all about the wonders of a good style team. She is every inch a star about to supernova: whole lot of glamour going on there!

I would think that the production’s costuming, hair and make-up departments would have some sway in making sure their stars look good for events.  Or perhaps they ike it when the stars look worse on the RC than in the production?

I would not want to meet Elizabeth McGovern in a dark alley. She looks absolutely psychotic here.

Joanne Froggatt really brought it. 

i like the coat. it doesnt look too off the beaten rack to me; then again, i am falling asleep sitting up. one more of those days. & she shouldnt be wearing the orange lipstick. seems to be nobody should be doing that. not to mention w/ an old-but-not-quite-old-enough dress from young edwardian circa maybe, oh, 1980, when the going started going bad.

the one on top i will never ever stop mistaking for maureen mcgovern, every single time i hear her name i think the sounds of lots & lots of water over shelley winters in a boat’s sinking nightclub. right now i’m thinking if i finally type this out maybe the thoughts will finally fix & depart. anyway, this one has nice arches. or whatever it is one calls the tops of arches when one is wearing sandals. when one is wearing shoes i suppose theyre called vamps. but i mean the foot not the shoe & i have no idea. i remember a supervisor of mine having some similar when i was fourteen & at what was more or less my first job, robinsons beverly hills [circa a little less than a decade post the abovenoted morning after. so many mornings after that]. i was amazed then, less now. more confused, i guess, w/ how much this one looks like juliette lewis when forty years ago she looked like, i think, an australian lounge singer? not really.

i dont remember the blonde one’s dress at all. i think it had holes in it.

Lady G, want’s us to know that is mathematically impossible all those actresses in their twenties could actually  be her daughters (snort).
I would like to see Lady Sybil’s dress without the coat. Because if it’s a really stark black crepe with long sleeves and a white lace collar, I love it.Anna has the wrong length slip.

Elizabeth McGovern does that same look constantly on Downton Abbey and I just cannot handle it.  At first I thought it was just something she was doing as the character and then as episode after episode went by I thought “No, that must be her coming through, because it’s just a bit odd.”  

I remember watching Joanne years ago on Coronation Street.  She played this feisty street urchin (aren’t they always feisty?) named Zoe.  It took me some time to figure out where I knew her from, because she’s grown into such an elegant young lady.

Joanne certainly looks the best by far, but looking at the over pics from the night Jessica is more in keeping with the evening. The whole thing was pretty casual, definitely not glammed up at all. John Hurt looked like he’d just rolled off a park bench! A few of the women were a bit done up, but not many. It’s just a different thing here, most of our actors are also stage actors so it’s all more bohemian and theatre. The likes of the Soap and TV awards get more glam veering into trashy but some of the more serious actors will only brush up for the BAFTAs.
