Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2012 Collection

A collection with a surprisingly Parisian feel coming from a designer with such a strong background in defining the American woman’s style. Bright and bold, with silhouettes so clearly defined they almost look like drawings, these looks have a pleasing dramatic quality that we don’t often see with DVF. Perhaps not coincidentally, we’re not seeing a lot of the prints and layering that defined previous collections, which gives an impression of clearing the decks a bit; boiling the look down to its basic elements without being minimalist about it. The results are sexy statement-making looks for the lady who isn’t afraid to make a statement.

Very pretty. I love the colours too. But the models are SO tall and thin that the photos look as if they’ve been stretched.

I adore the red dress (top row) and the hands dress (row 4). The pink outfit in row 1 looks like surgical scrubs.

Do like DVF because of her clothing or her person? ( I really admire her moxy.) Does it matter?

The continuance of her wrapping, draping and slouching fabrics works very well here. Nice fresh details to her fabric choices, can’t help it, I love that her innovations are now classics and she provides very interesting twists this time.

I like most of these looks (and DVF, for that matter) but some things about this collection are just confusing me right now. WHERE ON EARTH did the martian green (second to last row, left top) and various blues (third to last row, strap of domino clutch) come from? They’re NO WHERE ELSE in this collection and as for that green, I’m pretty sure nowhere else in this fashion week either. DVF needs to learn to stick with a color story. Also, THE LAST OUTFIT IN THE SECOND ROW. Was there a lack of fabric, causing DVF to quickly grab her favorite 80′s hoochie dress and throw it on an innocent model along with two totally mismatching fabrics? OK…I guess I’m getting a little carried away. BUT STILL!

To end on a good note, J’ADORE the pink jumpsuit (first row, right), the two-tone opera gloves (fourth row, right), the entire fifth and seventh rows, and the bright jewel tone (NOT various other wild-card colors, DVF. Please.)

Aside from the ‘tummy knot’ dresses, I will take one of everything pleas. Chic, fun, colorful. She never disappoints. The first two red dresses, the purple trench and the ‘hand’ dress are so very my thing. Love.

The interesting thing about the fact that she’s mostly working in solids is that she’s working with them the way she works with prints: the combinations shouldn’t work but they TOTALLY DO. The whole 3rd to last row is to die.

these are stunning and sophisticated. I would love to have some of them. Love the collar on the row 1 red dress. Not a big fan of the hands dress, It is a little to “Handsy”. The chartreuse is not my color, but a mossy green would be great.

With a name like Rendezvous, I expected it to look a little French, in the styling and the attitude. I love how easy most of the pieces look, as well, very effort-less chic. (most of the looks. sorry, princess fürstenberg, but I hated your hand-print dress, while I adored rodarte’s take)

Some of these will be fetching good money on [the equivalent of] eBay in 30 years simply because women will still want to wear them. They’re not all by any means ‘unique & rarely seen,’ more ‘rarely done this well.’ The three in orange-red [jersey?] especially appeal to me. And I very much want to see the wine dress on the left of the second row worn by a woman of non-model proportions. If the horizontal gathering/ruching effect is not stretched too tight, I suspect that is a dress that could make a woman feel like a dame. In a good way.

That hands print looks very familiar to me, I wish I could remember where I’ve seen something similar (not necessarily a garment).

There are some really stunning looks here, but the one with the hands all over it looks like a lot of people are grabbing for her boobs, and the apostrophes on the yellow and black coat look like sperm.

The only two words that come to my mind are: Absolute. Class.

The color scheme gets a little sporadic, but I’m happy to see so much color in a collection that I really don’t mind.
