As we said the other day, when she was sporting an LBD, “Never before have we seen an actress who can so easily switch back and forth from ‘mental patient’ to ‘Audrey Hepburn.” This would be “mental patient” mode. Or at least, mental patients as they might appear in some indie Euro film with a couturier providing costumes. Believe it or not, we think she looks downright amazing here. We also think there is probably no other star around right now who could work this look. It’s utterly hers and she knows it, which is why she’s been so consistent with it.

And here she is WERQing a much more typically “Audrey” kinda look. Our first impulse would be to suggest earrings, but again, this androgynous Audreybot thing she’s got going on is extremely consistent. She knows what she’s doing. She’s been getting some flack in the fashion press (even a little from us), but as time goes on and she’s showing a real commitment to a certain kind of style, we start appreciating it more and more for not being the typical red carpet attempts. We don’t love every dress and every look, but we’re damn impressed with how fully realized this … persona (for lack of a better word) is and how much thought was put into it.

Her hair is gross when she does wears that square/straight bang . Ugly and make me have to scroll her face off the screen.

  I’m not a fan of the straight/square bang, but I think they work with this outfit and the makeup softens it a bit. So often these bangs are paired with the matte red lip, but doing softer makeup works much better.

    Agreed. The Audreybot hair & outfit work very well together on her, and there really is something about her that buzzes. Both looks are total WERQs, even down to the faun feet in the Givenchy.

      Oh, thank god. Over at GFY I was alone, howling into the wilderness in defense of the hair and first outfit. I’m so glad I’m not the only person on earth who enjoys what she’s doing (also TLo, of course! and the Fug Girls themselves were pretty open to it. Mostly the commenters were just depressing me.)

I love both these looks, especially the first one. That jacket is stunning, and I like that she ditched the furry stuff hanging down from the hem in the runway version. I like to think Audrey Hepburn would be pleased with the comparison.

This won’t make any sense but while I don’t love either look, I love them on her. Weird, right? And bonus points from greatly improving on the Givenchy look (What IS that on the original? Spanish moss?)

but I CANNOT believe the way they “translated” the name of the movie in Spanish…. that is a crime!!!!!! ridiculous!!!! it would be better if it were “Vanger Corporation:…” at least, instead of Millenium…. did they read the book??? oy……

  its often referred to as the Millennium Trilogy and the original Swedish title (properly translated) is Men Who Hate Women, so all that explains the Spanish title.

      Actually, no. Be outraged– the translation IS bad. “Los Hombres que NO Amaban a las Mujeres” is both a clunky AND an inaccurate translation. In English it would be “the men who did NOT love the women”, which is stupid and makes me think this movie could be about gay men rather than evil, sadistic bastards. “Hombres que Odian a las Mujeres” is the literal translation of the original title in Swedish, and it’s less cumbersome. Silly translators.

I agree, I would add some earrings. She’s got a distinctive, edgy look. But personally, if I were her, I couldn’t wait to grow the hair out. I really don’t like the straight across short bangs. 3 Stooges – Moe? Home haircut using a bowl.

i’m just very glad she removed the extraneous horsehair from the givenchy. cos w/ it it truly is mental patient & elsewise, why, that is a smashingly fabulous jacket. i will comb ebay for it semi-religiously if i am still around in a year, i think. if i remember.

i’m sure everyone likes the second look better but it’s merely okay to me. it’s just cos i like wilder clothes, the personal preference thing fullstop. & i like noomi rapace better, personal pref again, but this one always looks good in clothes, pretty much. & has interesting taste to go w/ it.

  Noomi Rapace is so freaking good as Lisbeth that I can’t make myself get too excited over the U.S. version of the movie. Don’t know that I’ll even bother to see it. I will say IRL Rooney Mara definitely has the more interesting, edgy look.

    I was wary too, but decided to see the US version anyway. I was surprised, particularly because I had always considered Mara to be a pretty slight actor. I think Mara gives the character a vulnerability that Rapace’s presentation did not. Both actors present slightly different interpretations of the same character. The last scene in the US version did make me get a bit teary.

  I am with you, I love the first look, it’s styled so well and she makes the jacket look fabulous. The second look is meh. Love the neckline and hair and makeupp are good, but there really was no styling. Not a fan of the washed out color or the bottom of the dress (it really needs movement).

I love the first look, but her head…I don’t hate the Moe bangs but something is off. Maybe if her hair was down, or if she had studs in her ears, or some lipstick on. I’m not sure, I can’t figure out what’s bothering me there. I’m a bad kitten.

The 2nd look is good also. I have less issues with her head. I still feel like she needs something…lipstick? It’s bothering me that I can’t place what I think is missing-I need a margarita.

That Givenchy is the most unflattering garment I’ve seen in some time. That being said, I love how unique she is and I think she’s interesting, which isn’t something one can say about the majority of Hollywood startlets.

Geez, so many people ragging on the hair! Personally, I think it’s super cute and a million times fresher and more eye-catching than the dull-as-nails mid-back bed of straw waves sported by 90% of other celebrities.

And it’s sad that you don’t see the first look anywhere else on the red carpet — it’s not even that she’s being too edgy, it’s just that every other celebrity is so friggin’ conservative. Girls have been working this look since at least 2007, come on.

That Givenchy jackes is beautiful beautiful beautiful. Fun to see that the Spaniards have chosen to translate directly from the Swedish and are going with “Men Who Hate Women” instead of the whole Girl thing. I like this young lady for the simple fact that she must have nerves of steel: how else would one even dare to take on the role after Noomi Rapace?
