Agreed. I don’t really see the appeal to her, to tell the truth, it all seems like a huge PR effort: we can’t market the music, cause it’s not that accessible, so she’s a STYLE QUEEN. That is a flimsy premise, and we are starting to see the cracks now. 

True that.  I just wikipedia’d her and, if you can call that a reliable source, verified that she’s only in her mid-20′s.  Time to scale it back a bit because she has plenty of time for Grand Dame later, time for some more fun.

Good point.  She looks middle-aged here, not to mention witchy.  Not a good look.

okay, it’s JUST MY TAKE, so please don’t hurt me, but:  she takes herself way too seriously, and so do her fans.  *ducks*  i think her band should be called “florence & the p.r. machine,” because she sort of barreled into mainstream success last year, and there are other singers who … well.  imogene heap, anyone?

It wouldn’t hurt if she eased up on the pale foundation makeup either.

I really love her, but I cannot get away from the fact that most of her candid shots she looks a bit manly.  This drag queen get up is definitely not helping.

I have to say, I don’t really get her. I’m not familiar with her music, but whenever I see her I wonder why her hair and makeup looks so terrible when she’s usually wearing such amazing dresses. In the world of female musicians with style, I’ll take Joanna Newsom any day. She rocks the shit out of the likes of Rodarte and Christopher Kane on stage all the time and actually looks put together.

Agree. Chanel and Dior are not doing the best work out there right now, anyway.

Agreed. She’s barely into her career and is already locked into a style she can’t seem to get out of, a la Stevie Nicks and her Welsh Witch personae she is still stuck in, 30 plus years later.

I’m not sure I agree. I’ve seen her in concert when she was wearing one of the Gucci dresses that she brought on tour, and she just looked like she was having so much fun dressing up! She was playing with the chiffon and kept talking about how much she loved the dress and was dancing around waving the dress around her. I think she honestly like wearing these dresses, and I mean who’s to blame her?? If I had as much money as her, I’d be wearing the most expensive dresses I could and just relishing it. I would killll to wear Chanel, so I don’t really blame her for wanting to wear it all the time. I can’t really see her in anything else…. I saw her in an airport 4 months ago and she wasn’t wearing a ball gown, but she was wearing a very stylish/dramatic little dress, thigh high socks, Sam Edelman boots and one of those Gucci hats that everyone was wearing. I think she has the classic English tendency to overdress god knows we like the opportunity to throw on a pair of heels and a party dress for the slightest of occasions.

I think this outfit would look dreary on anyone, frankly. Imagine that walking down the runway on PR, put together by some contestant whose last name isn’t Chanel or Lagerfeld, and guess what the critique would be.

I love my girl Flo. In this instance I can’t, I just can’t.  She looks like she’s a refugee from a 50′s horror film where she is about to be attacked by the werewolf, when she (stupidly ignored the advice of the hero) and went out to the moors for a stroll at 2 AM.

Agree, especially since this outfit looks like it was made for Morticia Addams.

She’s 25?!?!?! Good golly. I think it’s great she’s going for dramatic and elegant with her striking looks, but her clothes (and hairstyle) are SO AGING!!! But I am not familiar enough with designers to know who would work better with her looks.

I think my biggest problem is her hair and makeup.  Lately, her hair has been looking dirty and lifeless.  This lipstick is not her best choice, she’s shiny, and her eyes are disappearing.  I’m not saying she needs makeup or should wear it.  But you can’t wear these grand clothes and then look like you haven’t washed your hair and have low key makeup.

Agree about the style issues.  Also I hate her hair and makeup.  She’s attractive but she somehow always looks completely exhausted and 20 years older than she is.

Very much agree. Also, I wish she’d lighten up the makeup a little. She needs to go spend some time around KiKi, and maybe Evan Rachel Wood. Splash of Diane Kruger never hurt anybody.

I actually loathe this outfit and think it looks like something appropriate for a goth grandma which is, I think, the point you are making. She looks way older than I do which is tragic for an alt girl.

Some of us look older than our years, no matter how young we feel…I think it is important in this case to try to remain fresh in the style department, and most of her clothes make her look older than she is..(only 25, 26?) She is so pretty and I think she would look great in some cigarette pants and a vintage top…she should definitely bring us on tour with her to help her with her styling….

I saw her interviewed and she sounds and behaves much more youthful than her appearance.  With the cape off and the booties like the model wore, I suspect this would have looked more age appropriate.

And a concert appearance at the opening of a department store SALE?  Geez.

I wouldn’t have thought of it – after all, that’s why you at T&Lo do what you do. But now that you’ve brought it up? I see that you are totally right. (Ooh, love Harrod’s. But it’s so gawd-awful hideously expensive for even a tin of lollies. And it’s so filled with gaudy Middle Eastern types burning through their petro-dollars.)

I am sitting slack-jawed & aghast at the concept that she is 25 or “young” in any way shape or form.  And, contrary to the nicer kittens below, I’m going to just say it – she looks old in the face.  Her face is haggard.  She may have “mature” sartorial taste, but I believe it is because she has a “mature” everything else to go along with it.   It’s just what happens when one ages.

If she put on anything with a more youthful feeling, she’d look like a disgracefully aging celebrity.  She could do better if she would just put on some color. My God, where is the color?!?

Agree. It ages her. You know what else she has a face for? Wayyyyyy boho hippie looks. Which would be more casual and appropriate for appearances that aren’t, you know, dinner with Miss Havisham. 

i’d define her look as straight up celtic witch, which i find kinda cool.  i could live in that cape here during the cold mountain winters, although it could cross over into pod person pretty easily.  i also adore the random dyed chiffon dress underneath.  but then i am 63 years old.  i think what’s really aging her here is the lightlight foundation next to the cold red lips.  she has a strong jaw and rather thin lips which she doesn’t need to be drawing attention to.  more on the eyes and less on the lips, i say.

Complete agreement!  She looks so OLD and dowager Queen here, like an evil Disney character with posioned apples to hand out.  In a DEPARTMENT STORE!  FOR THE OPENING OF A SALE?!?!  Seriously……

I agree, she can work the dramatic looks so why not play around with different designers (you know what i mean)

Maybe she should keep the style and agree to events/appearances more suited to it.

Holy hell she needs some sun. I know she rocks the pale girl thing like nobody else, but she looks like a plaster-cast vampire queen here. With her hair and her style she tends to look dour, and the colors here do her no service. She better spiff up this look a bit, because it’s aging her too much (also, smiling is good, smiling helps, hon!)

I get that she has the figure and face and proportion for couture, but she needs to branch out and explore other options than Dior and Chanel, which BTW, is getting more Teutonic by the minute, Uncle Karl. How about a little flowy boho Cavalli? Or maybe give Stevie Nicks a call and see what she suggests? Loosen up, Flo – you’re a beautiful young woman, so have a little fun and relax (like Frankie says).
