We initially rejected the idea of featuring these pictures here. “Aren’t we all just a bit Fanning’d out?” we asked the sky. “Didn’t we just put an Elle Fanning editorial up? Do we need a Fanning/Elle followup?”

But then we worried that by ignoring Dakota in favor of little Elle, we would be driving a wedge between the two sisters that could only end in tears and deceit someday. Possibly even murder. We couldn’t take that chance, darlings. Besides, she looks pretty fierce. She’s always been old for her years and she’s better than most young ladies her age at pulling off a sort of knowing world-weariness without making it look too much like an act.

On her age:
“I feel like I’ve lived a long time, but then I realize, ‘Oh, I’m actually only 17.’ I don’t think there should be an age limit on an interest, do you know what I mean?”

On her physical appearance:
“People are always talking about this person who looks great and that person who doesn’t. It’s there, if you let it in. I let it in to an extent. I just don’t let it affect the choices I make.”

On her sister Elle:
“She is incredibly free-spirited and totally wears her heart on her sleeve, you know exactly what she is thinking by taking one look at her. She’s just incredibly… I don’t know, I wish I could be more like her sometimes.”

  Thank you. I get that she has that “older than her years” vibe but she’s still a kid and they’ve made her look my age. She looks artificial and I’m really hating the way they’ve styled her hair. What a waste, there are some cute clothes here, the second outfit in particular.

    Or, in the case of most 17 yr-olds I see wearing it, not always pulling it off. Harder for non-models/actresses to pull it off IRL, since the body language is often out-of-sync.

She looks great in that first cover shot, but in the others, she looks a little world weary. As for her age, considering how long she’s been working, her 17 is probably the equivalent of 30 for the rest of us. Both sisters seem to not be messed up or party animals or whatever, which is good to see. I am experiencing a bit of Fanning overload, though.

Is the matte lip coming back? I hope so. The shiny can be garish and hard to maintain.

  I too am feeling a bit of Fanning overload. They both seem to have a fairly healthy perspective for teenage actors, which bodes well for them. I suppose it’s fun for them both to play dress up and do the world weary, sophisticate pose.

Wow, it’s hard to believe she’s only 17. She does look pretty fierce in these pictures, and unlike her sister, she can pull of the sophistication without looking like a girl in grown up clothes (of course, it could be the three years that separate them, but hopefully everyone knows what I mean).

She is absolutely beautiful, but is being made to look too old. At least her look is classy, not trashy.

However, my concern is the clothing being shown on other models. Butt-ugly. They have deconstructed fashion so much that it looks like odd, ill-matched thrift store outfits. The depression is back, and the girls are wearing odd assortments of hand-me-downs and bad home-sewing projects in bad colors, thrown together in random outfits. I can’t believe anyone will pay large amounts of money for this and that designers have the nerve to present it as being 1) new, 2) innovative and 3) attractive. However, a sucker is born every day.

  Oh, I agree — I know that people are always saying “looks like she took my grandma’s curtains” – but that second look on the model truly looks like someone took a cafe curtain and attached it around thd model’s shoulders. Very flat lighting, photoshop that distorts her arms in two shots (LOL, how do editors miss that?), no wonder she looks like everyone except herself (I thought early Madonna).

Good grief, the Vuitton and (of course) the Miu Miu are hideous on the models. I think Dakota’s pose in the Mui Mui photo is the only thing saving it from looking like crap on her too.

She looks incredibly mature here, but I don’t think it’s disturbing. She’s been in the public eye for a long time. She seems to understand it, and she hasn’t let it consume her. If I have any issues at all, it’s that the fashion industry insists on models being ridiculously young. And they’re often not convincing when they’re modeling clothes that aren’t geared towards teenagers. Fanning pulls it off better than a lot of them.

Anyway, I think she looks beautiful. And I’m dying over that lip color.

The cover is the least successful of the photos. I think she looks just like what she is – a very pretty teen dressing a little too old (which, is generally how teens want to dress, at least when dressing up) and mostly pulling if off. I don’t find any of the poses offensively sex-pot. I *wish* 17 year olds didn’t think they were grown, but they do. I pretty much did, at that age.

I would like the blue eyes & red lips to be a tad less saturated, I find it off-putting, but she does a fine job.

That doesn’t even look like her – in a bad way. I hate the make up and the way they’re making her up to be Evan Rachel Wood. I think it really obscures her natural prettiness and the fine bones of her face. It’s just too OLD. ugh. Not a fan of this jarring look.
