Tibi Pre-Fall 2012 Collection

You can’t tell it from the above picture, but Tibi continued its interest in spare, menswear-inspired minimalism with this collection. What you can tell from the above picture is that the collection is also punctuated with vivid, yet simple florals, which makes for a highly pleasing juxtaposition. The look is simple and elegant, with an emphasis on pairing classic separates. We don’t love the way the collection is styled here, but once you break it down to its components, you see one great interpretable piece after another. Effortless sophistication.

      True confessions: I just got a haircut, and yup, it’s blunt-cut and left the gray alone. Also (very big sigh) just bought my first pair of Clarks (bunions finally rule out the shoes of my youth). Oh, I also treasure my honking big artisan jewelry bought in India. But, doubt that I’m the target demographic (due to age) for this stuff.

        True confessions: I’m not totally gray yet, but plan to keep my one-length long hair when it is all gray. Currently a Clarks-only girl (plus one pair of olive Noats). Planning to dress more like this collection when slightly older (my sister won’t let me “age myself” now) and (hopefully) at a higher pay grade. Currently a thrift-store mix of Ann Taylor and JJill and Calvin Klein. I make my own jewelry, or alter the cheap jewelry that I buy. And I plan to be managing a nonprofit in my 60s.

i like almost all of these pieces, especially the prints. the pants do seem to, unfortunately, be cut to make the model look wide in the hips. and the model does look a lot like wednesday adams.

Eh. I kind of like the pink dress, but I also think it looks like a swimsuit coverup. Most of this is unflattering. Those open toed heels with the ankle strap are hideous.

I like some of this, especially the prints. They are so pretty. The straight dresses would be a disaster on me. You have to be stick thin with a boyish figure to wear those well.

I like so much about these, but I don’t understand why they are all so shapeless. A little bit of fitting would have made this an extraordinary collection.

I love the dress in the thumbnail. The floral chemise with the bright pink sash is stunning.The rest of the collection leaves me cold.

    Well thank you. I personally do not wear chemise style dresses that fall straight from the shoulders, but I do think this one is lovely. I like the simplicity of the actual pattern of the dress mixed with the rather loud floral fabric and I am a sucker for that bright pink in the sash.

I ignored shoes, makeup hair and zombie stances.
Still blah and in many cases just ugly. bordering on Sister Wive territory.
The only individual piece that I could possibly see wearing is the snake print skirt with a black sweater and tights.

My grandma has a garment that looks exactly like that top right dress, only hers is blue instead of pink outfit, and I got an outfit very similar to the one with the grey shorts from my favourite thrift store about 2 years ago – I’m wearing it right now, which is kind of scary… Must be some some secret fashionista gene running in my family!

That first dress confuses me – I honestly have no idea who could pull this off. The print and colour blocking are kind of cool, but the cut and proportions don’t look terribly flattering on the model imho, and I think most curvier ladies would object to the hot pink panel across the hips…

Enh. What passes for “effortless sophistication” on a size 0 teenager with mile-long legs interprets as “I Give Up” on a 5’6″ middle-aged professional woman with a few extra pounds on her curves.

Oh goodness I didn’t scroll all the way down but am I the only one who is with TLo on this? Aside from the white shirt with black collar and patterned sleeves – and the b&w country club lady clamdiggers – I will take one of each please. They are styled very badly and shapelessly but I’d have an all together different take. I’ll pull those skirts straight into the ‘land o’chic’ if someone would be nice enough to send them along. Please leave packages on the porch.

I simply cannot get behind highwater pants. They look ridiculous on everybody, even models.

Odd model choice, aside from the shitty styling, since these clothes read much older and not very young or street to me. Kind of blah overall IMO, and not very flattering, but it is nice to see prints and colors. I like the minimalist vibe, just not a lot of the actual execution. It’s like the proportions are just off somehow.

Jury has to stay out on the clothing. I *think* there are some vey nice pieces. But as shown, I am not sure if it would work on a more womanly figure or just make someone with hips look disproportionately broad. And as shown here, it is mostly doing Absolutely Nothing for the thin & lanky model.

I like most of this although I wonder (not for the first time looking at such pix) if it would truly be flattering on the 99% of women who don’t have the model’s build.

Wouldn’t they sell more in a collection like this if the model looked fresh and upbeat and not like Wednesday from the Addams Family?? I have such a hard time seeing the potential for clothes when models look this way. My untrained eye just sees “She looks like she has had a lobotomy and is being used as a mannequin. I wouldn’t want to feel this way or be this girl.” Also I think the footwear is all really distracting.

I like, but do wonder if they would look good on anyone with hips and/or a bust? They are square-shaped pieces which often fit poorly over a curvier human body. But as a general idea for someone who is build more like Kate Moss, yes, pretty and simple and elegant.
