I think it’s just cause she’s not contorting herself (oh, fine, posing) like the model is. Also, she’s probably a bit shorter-waisted than the model, so the flare of the skirt is hitting her a little higher on the torso? Perhaps?

not the flash it’s the ration of spandex to nylon. A little spandex keeps hosiery from sagging and running easily, but too much and they start t appear shiny.

I recently grew my hair out and I’ve found the best way to get Cathy Cambridge hair is to use shampoo and conditioner that don’t have sodium or sulfates (they cause hair to frizz). Instead of a curling iron, I use the “sock bun” trick. Every time I take the bun down, my hair looks like hers. Really easy, really inexpensive.

    I really like the L’Oreal EverPure (and Ever___) lines. I use the EverStrong, and it evens smells nice:) The Overnight Treatment is particularly great.
    
    The YesToCarrots shampoo and conditioner are really great as well — my husband uses those because he has several skin problems/allergies and can’t use 98% of commercial products. He has very coarse, very dry hair and even with just the shampoo (testing hair products for him is like testing baby food — one isolated new product at a time:) his hair was ridiculously soft and shiny.

      Love the Yes to carrots line and FYI the Cucumber makeup remover clothes are awesome. In the summer I keep them in the fridge. They feel great after a hot day running around.

      I use the Blueberry ones, and my husband uses the Cucumber (he can’t use face/body wash either… he also can’t eat any raw fruits… it’s fun at my house:) Still the only ones I’ve ever found that DON’T dry my skin too much.
      
      And for dark circles, the blueberry eye roller is AMAZING!!! I was amazed by it and turned a friend onto it too — she called me 5 minutes after buying to shriek into the phone “THIS IS SO GREAT!” We have dark circle issues… as well as moderating our responses to little things like that issues:)

I’ve heard she gets Keratin treatments, and I believe she used to use Kerastase products, but not sure if that changed, since that info was from before the wedding.

The combination of black tights and matte/suede/velvet black pumps with a not-ridiculously-high heel is very 1989-90. In a good way. Opaque/matte tights would have completed that look, where the tights just blend into the shoe. I think I need to go listen to Swing Out Sister now.

  Apparently my memory of matching opaque tights and pumps was on trend. Not 20 minutes after I posted that, the stylist on Access Hollywood Live showed how she “elongated the leg” by dressing the model in red tights and pumps in the same shade.

I’m firmly in the “I like hosiery” camp, but the Duchess’ hose here seem pretty dark next to the light/white color that is the background for the dress. She looks lovely and happy, though, which is most becoming, and to my eyes hers are dark hose, not patterned, and not glittery. Glitter hose on the Duchess of Cambridge seems like a heckova stretch and would likely be viewed as a misstep.

I like it, i don’t think it necessarily needs a belt – but then I guess everyone would be screaming ‘pregnant!’ at her if she wasn’t cinched. I do think it’s funny when the blogs mention the black hose as if they’re some sort of fashion statement, it’s really cold in London at the mo, I live in my tights all winter, I just think she’s sensible and it was out of the question to go out without them.

  Completely agree. I’ve done several years in DC, and this is what everyone does. Black tights are a winter necessity for big cities in the winter. I wear them at least 2-3x a week, especially with skirts and black boots.

Well, Zara is pretty cheap. It’s disposable fashion, all synthetic fabrics, no linings, minimal allowances in the seams. It’s fun but when you can afford very expensive, you tend to look cheap when you step out in Zara.

I think it’s a cute dress, but the belt is silly with it.

Personally, I don’t feel that they are sufficient for winter unless I have a very dressy event to attend and can’t make a case for my beloved tuxedo pants. (Easily my favorite thing I’ve ever made — perfect fit and lined with flannel for warmth:) That and a beaded top with a great earring/bracelet, wool dress coat with bracelet length sleeves and long leather gloves — there are very few things important enough to get me in a skirt in winter.

That’s what I was thinking. That’s got to be the most leg we’ve seen on a royal ever – Diana’s post-divorce frocks notwithstanding. It looks like Camilla’s of the same opinion, too, which is hilarious.

Not to get into the whole body/weight thing, but the reason I’m saddest that she got so thin is that her legs used to be goddess-like in their awesomeness, and now they are merely model-fabulous. I’m tough to please, I know.

Yes, I think she looks pretty cute and sassy too. I like the dress, length, jacket, belt…not liking the sheen and sheerness to the black hose nor the shoes matching the hose color and sheen. A darker black shoe with a bit of contrast to the hose would have been better, imo.

The black hose are so bold that they fight the dress. The dress is daytime and the hose are evening. Somehow she turned a flirty daytime dress into something to wear to work. The the bold dark hose, contrasting belt, the white underlay and the black jecket take it down. I think this is a miss. I think she is gorgeous, but somehow the Palace Dowdy Police got to her. She better be careful, or she is going to start looking like Princess Anne.

  I think she tried to change too much about the dress and made it very ordinary. i think that she is gorgeous. But, she changed too many things about this dress to keep the flirty, effortless look. The original dress looked like it had a flesh colored underlay. So, when the model wore it, it seemed to melt into her body. The dress was not cluttered otherwise. The point of having flesh colored legs was to carry out the theme of body melting into dress. The balck stockings she wore fought with the dress for attention. I did not know where to look: The dress or the legs. In the end, the legs won. This is not a dress for a winter evening. It is a daytime dress. It was not meant to be worn with a jacket. The top is boring when under a jacket. The contrasting belt, the change to white from the flesh color, the odd jacket make the whole outfit boring IMHO. I think elbow length sleeves on a jacket are odd, anyway, especially in winter. I am not trying to tear her down. But sometimes I think people are shutting off their brains and will say ANYTHING she wears is great. Most of the time, what she wears is great. But, once in a while, she misses. I think the outfit is boring and should be worn shopping or to visit a school, or someother mundane daytime activity. I also think she ought to not wear the black stockings with it. And you are probably going to really dislike this, but I think those opaque hose make her legs look kind of heavy. And we all know she is pencil thin, and would really have to work to look like that. I think this outfit was just a miss for her.

    I still feel like the proportion is just off somehow — everything looks just a skosh too short for her. If everything she had on was lengthened by a 1/4 to 1/2 inch in each area (the dress would be through the shoulder, the waist and the skirt individually) it would be far more flattering.
    
    I don’t think the hose make her legs looks heavy, but I do agree that they may make them look a bit heavier than they really are. I can’t imagine anyone saying the legs themselves are objectively large, but through the thighs they appear slightly bigger than they usually do. It’s because of the semi-sheer nature and the sheen in the nylon.

      I said dowdy, because she took a very sculptured stylized dress, and made it look ordinary. I would have preferred that she put this dress away and wear it when she did not need to change so much about it. And, I am scared they are chipping away at her sense of fashion. She needs to stick to her own fashion aesthetic. Princess Anne is pretty scary, but undoubtedly in good standing with the Royal Dowdy Police.

      I’m always of two minds when it comes to royal fashions: On the one hand, I think that these people should still be allowed to be individuals, and a fabulous wardrobe is always fun to see. On the other, there’s something to be said for tradition and doing one’s duty to one’s country.

    The dress colour is the same. The lighting is a bit different obviously and it’s bleached out by flashbulbs, but it definitely isn’t white! It’s a dress from a high street shop, made in a factory somewhere on the other side of the world, she’ll be wearing the same one as everyone else.

      I think she missed an opportunity to wear something kind of edgy. This is an evening concert for the Prince’s Trust. She could have worn something younger and more daring than she usually does. It would have been all right to do it for this concert. The Royal Dowdy Police would not have been on her case so much . She is apparently restricted about what she can wear normally. She could have taken a little fashion risk, because of this particular event. One of my complaints is that she is dressed for daytime. It seems so out of place at this concert. I do make these comments with the understanding she is pregnant. The dress she wore did cover the baby bump. She may not feel like being edgy at this point in her life. Never the less, she is always beautiful.

I almost love this look! I am pro-leg, and if she’s comfortable I’m comfortable. But the black tights with plain black shoes I think could use just the smallest touch of sparkle. What about shoes with a silver buckle or a vintage silver shoe clip? Or, dare I say it, black tights with the most subtle of patterns, like black on black vertical textural stripes.

It shows her shapely legs but keeps the focus upstairs where one shoud be focused with royalty. They almost never put legs on a stamp.

Well, I’m not totally dropping off to sleep (as usual when I see her) so that’s a plus! I think she’d have done well with a bootie here instead of the pumps. And I too am looking for a pop of some sort, maybe a sparkly black or kelly green or coral or teal belt? Or a brooch on the jacket?
