Jason Wu Pre-Fall 2012 Collection Jason Wu took his inspiration from the Maharaja and the fun wildlife illustrations of Charley Harper. He described it as the “regal” collection, which is, we suppose where the Maharaja part comes in. We love the color palette here; the rich oranges, blues and greens, especially. There are times when it seems things get a little too severe, but we the details and craftsmanship are amazing. Love the embroidery and beaded houndstooth. The coats are all fantastically chic, but only a few of the gowns stand out, which is to be a little expected for pre-fall, which has a greater focus on daywear and separates. But that black gown with the embroidered red flowers is a stunner. That’s got Anne Hathaway written all over it.

  YES. Practically all these looks are elegant and modern. I’m even into the shoes, purses and leather gloves shown here. If I were a red carpet regular, this collection would convince me to put Jason Wu at the top of my list of go-to designers.
  As it is, I’ll just stalk JW pieces at consignment stores!

So hard to see the dark clothes against the dark background in the underexposed images. Gowns are dull (except for the yummy green print), there’s too much shiny, I am over houndstooth. However, I would kill for any piece in those first six looks.

Wow, there are literally looks in this collection that I would kill for and looks that I detest. That doesn’t usually happen with me. The hounstooth panels je deteste. The fur collar on the coat looks like my 3rd grade parka but uglier. But looks 5, 7 and 9 – that windowpane coat – and yeah, the entire last three rows. Good stuff.

Huh. I like the idea of every single piece. Somehow I feel like the models seem to look weirdly clunky and awkward and unflattered in a lot of the shots, which is saying something, since they’ve all clearly been digitally manipulated beyond even my ability to ignore (and I am good at forgetting to even look for that shit).

So, it’s sort of hard for me to really get behind this collection, even though in theory I like just about everything.

While I am panting for the day that asymmetrical hems disappear forever, I love this collection. Especially the color palette and the prints, with their nod to the genius of Charley Harper. Jason Wu has managed to mix classic fabrics and cut with a modern sensibility, and the result is charming.

i truly hope to see shelly o. rock the orange in the first row (tho i’d bet she’ll as for a straight hem at that length), the printed sleeveless in the second row, and the beautifully royal blue evening gown with the handkerchief hem. i’m not crazy about them in general, and she’s such a tall woman that they can be iffy, but if they get the proportions right for our first lady, she’d slay bitches in that dress.
