In or Out: Vera Farmiga in Naeem Khan
We’ll take an interesting, discussable dress over a classic sheath any day of the week, darlings. We think that’s obvious by now. But an interesting dress doesn’t always make a pretty dress, does it? Hence the discussion. Open your books to Chapter 7 and we’ll begin.

This is a head-turning look in a lot of ways. It’s not like she’s showing up in crazy Gaga-wear, but we give her credit for not defaulting to the pricess fantasies and party girl looks that tend to dominate the red carpet. We think the top part is pretty and soft, but not particularly interesting. It’s the skirt that really gets all the attention here. It’s pretty and has a unique take on elegance. Her jewelry is great and her hair and makeup look soft and romantic. So what’s our problem here? Well, if there is a problem, we have to say it’s that top, which doesn’t feel like it goes with that skirt. The latter is such an interesting shape and the former just looks like your average blouse to be worn under a jacket. We think a top as focus-pulling as the bottom would have been a mistake but we can’t help feeling a little something-something up top would make this look more balanced.
IN! Interesting trumps pretty any day of the week!
OUT! Schoolmarm on the red carpet!
The vote on Uma Thurman’s “...and these are my breasts” Versace was, of course, an IN, with several dissenters who noted the poor fit.
