Divas Celebrates Soul Red Carpet

Darlings, if you know anything at all about us, then you know we are all about promoting the Way of the Diva. As such, could there possibly be anyone more appropriate to discuss the red carpet stylings at the taping of “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul?” No. There is not.

Don’t love the hair, shoes, or cape-like back, but we have to admit she cuts an impressive figure.

Classic “I lost a ton of weight” getup. The proportions are all wrong on her.

Oh Mary J. Blige we love you get up. No one needs to tell you how to dress like a diva. In fact, the only thing this outfit is missing is a bejeweled tiara and sceptre with a body sash that spells out “DIVA” in sequins.

Jennifer Hudson looks like a Star Trek groupie. Beam her up, Scottie!

LaLa’s outfit would’ve been so cute if someone could’ve cut out the mullet back. Something’s off with Florence’s face. The makeup is all wrong. Dolly got on a costume getup…which works since she’ll be performing on stage. So yeah, great costume/concert/stage outfit! Not a fan of Jill’s dress but she is definitely WERQ-ing what she has been given.

I like Jennifer Hudson’s look, though! The color looks fantastic, and it doesn’t hug her body so much that her organs are crying for some breathing room. Maybe if the boots were a little shorter, but you know what? No! Because then she’d look like a gyno queen and she likes to be covered in divatastic clothes. Just get rid of the choker and the gold hoops since they clash and call it a lovely day!

I gotta say I love the Jennifer Hudson look too. I think she looks FIERCE. Not so shrink-wrapped as when she first lost all that weight. You go, girl!

Florence Welch looks like Ziggy Stardust. And that is NOT a compliment…… I don’t get the love for her except for the music. Most of the time I think she looks borderline zombie drag queen.
Poor Jennifer hudson, I feel her pain. I just got into my 34/30 faded Wrangler jeans from 10 years ago after losing 45lbs. I know they look ridiculous but I just can’t help myself…… I just know not to wear them in public or around photographers

For my money its Estelle and Jill Scott who really brought Diva to the RC. Mary J Blige I think I would like a lot more without the fur jacket. Its too much of that champagne color at once, when paired with that dress.

Jill Scott’s bra is showing, but otherwise she looks perfect for this type of event. I like Jennifer Hudson’s dress but those boots are awful. Dolly Parton looks just right as always. She really knows how to play her character. Florence Welch’s hair is laughably bad but she sure isn’t laughing. Assuming these pictures were taken by a professional photographer, would it be asking too much to do a retake?

This doesn’t have to do with Florence’s outfit, but more like her makeup….I don’t understand how someone two years older than me (shes’s 25, I’m 23) can look like shes 40+ consistently. I just don’t get it! When I first saw her I was convinced she was in her 40s, and despite now knowing her birth date, I still can’t comprehend that she’s just 25!

  See here’s my issue with her look. Jessyne Norman is my mother’s age, 67/68. Jill Scott is barely 40, she was born in 1972. That is not cute. In terms of known plus size fashionistas I think Amber Riley and Queen Latifah consistently get it right. I don’t know if it’s the stylist or what, but most of the other gals end up looking like Jill does here.

  Christina reminds me of the large busted gals on What Not to Wear. The ones that Stacy & Clinton tell them to buy their tops bigger and get them tailored to fit. I think she also needs to stop allowing people to play up the bombshell look because they all seem to think that means showing half her boobs and pushing them up to her eyeballs.

Several of the others confuse diva-dom with “I have no qualms about wearing any sort of silly sh*t that takes my fancy.” Not the same, honeys.

If I had a home altar at which I honored the Guiding Principles of the Universe (and, someday I will), Ms. Parton would be there representing for intelligent Intentional Artifice. She is beyond fabulous in my opinion.

I saw Jill Scott perform in concert a few months ago and she looked much smaller than she photographs here. Hourglass shaped. Just wanted throw that out there…she is a MAGNIFICENT woman!

I actually like JHud and her diva boots. It’s not a cute look, but those boots scream I am a Diva.
Jessie J always dresses a little on the clown side so I give her and her landing strip a pass as well.
I do not like Jill Scot’s outfit. It’s aging and better suited for some one twice her age. Put this on Aretha Franklin and I’d love it.
Lala is another one who would look cute if the skirt didn’t have a mullet.

  Seconding the love for the Jessye Norman shout out. I named my last cat Diva after seeing La Norman in the French film “Diva”(and learned to be careful what one names their pet). She is one of the few, true divas in the world. You only get to have her attitude IF you have her rare and immense talent and that is all there is to it. Only two of the ladies pictured above have proven themselves to be true divas, IMO and I curtsy deeply to them. But love the entertainment and opportunities for judging the other ladies provide!

  It’s entirely possible your niece will grow out of it. I once was baffled by my mother’s fondness for COLOR, especially in unexpected places, and in color schemes which grew up around a paint mix mistake or an item in an unusual color. I have come to realize that she was brilliant.

Jill looks like really doesn’t have time to grace us with her fiyah but because her minions insisted, she pulled this ol’ blue frock (I say stunning, she says Tuesday) out of her magical closet and ripped the RC within an inch of its life. God knows I love her.

As for JHud and Jessie J and all the mullet skirts, I’m from the South and as we say down here, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say a damn thing.
