WERQ: Kirsten Dunst in Dolce & Gabbana

We are totally digging these Dolce & Gabbana vegetable florals. When they were first unveiled we were afraid they looked a little kitchen curtain-y, but every time a starlet wears one, we love it. Case in point:

I love Kirsten Dunst. Ever since I saw her in Dick (one of my favorite movies), I felt that if I ever had a daughter, I’d want her to be like Miss Dunst.

Very cute, and the polka-dot sandals are a total thrill. I’m so happy to see more fun sandals lately. HOWEVER…I think the skirt is too long by a couple of inches.

Hair and makeup look great, but I’m just not feeling the cut (maybe length?) of the dress on her. And I hate the shoes.

I quite liked it in the collection but I don’t think it translates well as an event dress. A bit too bland.

All I see is Dunst blandly embracing blandness…and if the shoes were more interesting, I’d say they were evil. But they’re not. They’re too boring to be evil…they’re just unattractive.

Actually now I think of it, the dress would probably be perfect for Betty White.

I really like the print and colors, but the shape of the dress feels more summery to me than fall…colors are totally fall. Looks more like a ladies afternoon tea dress to me…a very pretty one at that. I’m not sure if it’s right for the event or not. She looks great though, except, I’m really not digging the SJP eyes.

I really love the prints in that collection. This fits her great. She looks fabulous in it. (I do think she looks tiny bit washed out…but that is due more to the hair color than the dress color, I suspect.)

WERQ!!! I LOVE her, always have. Even when she has made some less than perfect RC choices. And I did not care for this collection either on the runway but she does make it work. maybe it was the “Carmen Miranda” earrings on the model that did it for me. Love Kirstens little flowers, so chic.

Like her in the dress much more than the model in the runway shot — something about the square/sweetheart neckline makes the model look like a giraffe. Maybe it just works better with hair down. Love the 50′s feel of the cut and the fabric makes it fun.

i had that dress multiple times in the 80s only the print wasnt as fabulous.

I remember the runway show at which these looks first appeared–read about it right here. Loved them on the models, love this dress on Ms. Dunst. In fact, I think she’s wearing it better than the model. (I am lusting after the yellow and red one shown from the back in the runway photo.)

But I do think the shoes are too lightweight with the length and volume of the skirt. It’s a very Fifties dress–it could use some Fifties shoes. Otherwise? She’s WERQing it, for sure!

The dress is great but her head looks washed out. Since blond apparently isn’t her natural color, I think it’s ok to say that she should switch to a darker haircolor. Also, the very dark mascara gives her a raccoon look.

I’m wearing floral today that harkens to the palette of these dresses – every time someone complimented me, I mentioned how cool these Dolce and Gabbana dresses are. I also mentioned how, when I see these dresses, I pretty much always suddenly crave Italian food – a big, heaping portion of spaghetti with tomato sauce. Ha!

Wow, my second OUT of the day. Tomato print dress? Why??? And if it must exist, it should only be worn to attend Independence Day parades, preferably ones on the town green where folks end up by singing “God Bless America” while gathered ’round the gazebo. I love it! The only comment I have is that, with these corset styled dresses, if you have bigger than model-sized boobs, there will be fit issues. If you look carefully you can see that the cups don’t cup her girls. But the print does wonders to mitigate that. If it was in a solid color, I bet she would have been an IN/OUT post instead of WERQ.

  Dolce & Gabbana have wheeled out that cupped bodice for years now and I really don’t like it. It’s too small on anyone with boobs, and flatter girls who’ve worn them just look even smaller. There’s something just all wrong about the cut of it. Not so obvious on this, but it’s clearer on some of their past evening dresses.

She’s not werqing it as far as I’m concerned. I do adore the dress but something about the fit seems off. The model looks fantastic but it’s just not flattering to Kirsten. I would normally loathe that style of shoe but…polka dots! They’re awesome. I agree with everyone who pointed out that this is a spring/summer dress and so looks inappropriate for late fall/winter. I know that celebs want to be the first to wear certain looks but it just looks so odd when they jump the season.

I think her hair and makeup are awful. Her hair is totally over-processed and lookes fried. And that platinum color washes her out. She’s got a bunch of scraggly, split ends. She needs a trim and a warmer, more toned-down shade of blonde. Also hate the raccoon eyeliner and pale lips. It ages her. So, not a WERQ. Not even an IN.

I have a slightly unrelated question: Is someone like Dunst really a starlet? I mean, she’s been in Hollywood for two decades. Starlet, to me, implies someone young, new to the scene, and maybe not all that talented. I know a lot of people hate on Dunst, but I think she’s quite talented and has proven her chops time and time again. Do we use starlet because we lack a word for those who aren’t on the level of Streep and Mirren and/or lack the charisma of Jolie and Theron? Is there a step between starlet and full blown star?
