In or Out: Emma Stone in Chanel

We have such a love-hate relationship with Emma and her style choices. Sometimes she nails it (but not enough), sometimes she looks like she couldn’t care less, and sometimes she looks like she’s trying, but falling short of the fabulous mark. We don’t know where this one falls on that scale.

It’s a really fantastic dress and it looks great on her, but what do we all think of her hair? We want to like it – we think we do like it, maybe – but we were taken aback when we first saw it. This can be a fun ‘do, but we’re not sure if it suits her that much. Plus, a pretty redhead sporting a bouffant can’t help but be compared to Kate Pierson of the B-52s. We can’t not see that. Still, that’s not to say a pretty redhead can’t rock the puffy hair if she wants to. But does it suit Emma? Does it suit this dress? We’re asking.

This is an In for me. I love the whole thing, except maybe the shoes. I think strappier shoe would have been nice.

I actually think this looks better on Stone than on the model. The hair is very cool with the dress. It is understated but still makes a statement without competing with the print and pleating on the dress.

I’m going to give her a tepid IN because the dress is gorgeous and I think the hairstyle works more than it doesn’t. Hard for me to focus on the dress and hair with all of those roses! But it is an interesting dress–IN. I’m on the fence…the rosebush backdrop wasn’t helpful at all (not her fault), so the hair got lost in it. The dress is odd in the hips, and I’m not thinking it’s right for her. I liked the model’s hair much better and wish something could’ve been added to her red hair in a similar fashion. It would have popped and been a nice accessory.

i like the hair and makeup without question. she’s had trouble finding off-the-face styles that suit her, and i like this one as an occasional option. my issue is with the length of the dress. i wish she’d have hemmed it just below the knee, nixing that split and the odd length. other than that, she is IN.

WOW, I neither remember this dress, nor do I *want* to remember this dress.

But, oddly enough, I think she’s wearing it well. For what it is (in an eye-assaulting print), she’s doing it justice, and the styling (yes, the bouffant) works well.

PLUS, she’s not falling into her usual sheer lip / wash of eyeshadow makeup. I never thought the eyeshadow almost to her brow suited her.

In! Its really flattering, and the use of the print is interesting. Shoes and bag are a bit boring, but appropriate. I like the hair, my only quibble are the tendrils; it would have been better clean and all up.

From the neck up, she and Blake Lively (http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2011/11/in-or-out-blake-lively-in-chanel.html) went the same route with the hair, and IMHO, Emma pulls it off way better. It’s sleek and classy, but with a pinch of sass and a wink. She can pull of hairstyles that look dated on other ladies, I think because she’s got so much personality.

i’m afraid she’s out. she needs a belt or something to break up all that whirling black and white, and the “corsage” thing on her left shoulder (right side of photo) looks like it’s growing and will soon take over the world. she should have done more with the shoes and the purse is so forgettable i had to go back and seek it out. with such a high forehead, that hairdo is making her look like an alien with a giant brain. it’s a shame, because you know i love me some redheads.

I think the dress is wonderful. In front of that backdrop – it looks busy as hell. (Why do events keep doing this “Hollywood goes to a garden party” thing?) But imagine how great she looked walking around the party? I think she even makes the dress look better than it did on the model (less going on around the hips). Hair was a perfect choice.

It’s not the hair, that’s not a fabulous dress. It fits her oddly around the hips. Perhaps because on the tiny model the hips look like shelves, which is what the designer wanted (?). Because Emma is not the same degree of tiny, the fabric ends up looking bulky and pulls oddly. it’s not a fabulous dress on the model, and it’s a terrible dress on a human. Out (sorry, Emma, I still love you.)

“falling short of the fabulous mark”, falling short being the operative words here. The dress is calf length on the model, and floor length on Emma. Hence, the odd fit and off proportions. “Couture” my ass. That should fit better than her skin. Since it doesn’t, OUT.
