In or Out: Amanda Seyfried in Michael Angel

We feel a little bad for Amanda because we’ve been forced to rag on her past couple of style choices and we know how devastating it must be for her to hear us say unkind things. We’re gonna do her a solid and feature her in something we like, but we’re not sure if we like-like.

It’s interesting, right? We’ll give it that. We’ve been shrieking for years about more prints on the red carpet and there’s definitely a trend towards wearing them. The Hollywood crowd is notoriously nervous about style, so expect the print–on-the-red-carpet trend to be short-lived. So it makes us want to praise every instance of a starlet wearing a print in front of photographers. Are we responding just a bit too positively because we want to or because we really, truly, sincerely love it? Examine that, minions.

We can admit, no matter what, that the shape of this dress is difficult to wear, with the high slit and asymmetrical hem. Once again, there’s a sense that she’s dressing wrong for her height and making herself look smaller and shorter than she is. We wonder if she has a new stylist who doesn’t quite understand the shape of her body yet.

Still, A+ for reaching for that wild print. It will be up to the Bitter Kittens, the Precious Unborn Fawns of our comments section, to decide if she is IN or OUT and ultimately if she LIVES OR DIES.

Okay, no on that last part. We just wanted to see if you were still reading.

  Agreed on the legs. It’s hitting her exactly where it should, and with the heels, it makes her legs look longer than the model’s. The only place I’m spotting a proportion issue is at her waist, because she appears to have a shorter torso than the model. But the wonkyish fit there is pretty well-concealed by the print, and I wouldn’t have noticed it at all without the runway photo to scroll between.

You know, I like it. I’m not a big print person, but she keeps it simple enough that it works. Also, I kind of like the weird geometry of the print and the cut of the dress together. IN!

I love it. In. Good choice on the shoe, too, if it’s the shade of eggplant I think I’m seeing – perfectly harkens to the purple in the dress. One minor quibble – where’s the jewelry? I get why they didn’t use the gold collar – it’s a little twee and would have gotten lost in her hair, but some gold chunky jewelry somewhere – I’m thinking big gold dangly earrings – would have really helped make those purples POP.

Out. I like the dress, like the print. But everything about her from the neck up is just wrong. The dress on the model has a striking neckline that you can’t see because of her hair. If you’re going to wear that kind of dress, put your hair up. Also, without seeing the neckline, the minimalist jewelry completely fades away. She might as well not be wearing any.

Worse, she looks like the crankiest person on earth (and that’s saying something considering K-Stew is currently doing the rounds). I’m sorry if you’re tired honey — you get paid more money in a month than most of us make in a year to stand and get your picture taken. Suck it up.

Enh…I hate to bag on the girl since she is definitely trying something, and her legs look great. I’m bothered by the print–in the closeups it looks an awful lot like something Seinfeld’s mom would have worn in Boca. A big camp shirt with a little collar and beeeg shoulder pads. If there’s one thing reading TLo has taught me, it’s that runway styling and celebrity styling are two different things, even when the same clothing is involved. So while I get it that the model is wearing what look to be glorified golf shoes with this dress, I vastly prefer the “just black heels” for the photo call.

And Amanda, remember this during your next publicity tour (to be sung to the tune of, “Can’t Help Lovin’ That Man of Mine”):

She gets an IN for an interesting dress and gorgeous hair and make up. She could’ve punched up the outfit a bit more with some statement shoes (either deep red or teal would’ve picked up the color in the print without being too matchy) and a statement bracelet (the one she’s wearing is pretty, but a bit boring for this dress) This is definitely a step in the right direction after that horrible, blue short suit she wore earlier this week. Ugh, it even pains me to write the words “short suit”.

In. I think the proportion problem (if there is one, i am not so sure) is because the print is darker in the middle, which is normally flattering, but against that dark backdrop makes her waist kind of get lost. Put her up against a white back drop and I bet her shape looks totally different.

In for the risk – and I think what’s making her look stumpy are her boobs. They aren’t small, and she keeps them too covered – making it hard to delineiate where the toros shape is. She either needs to work on some more waist definition (belts, color blocking, peplums, etc) or wear lower necklines, and sometimes pull some of the hair off of her tits, and stand up straighter…
