The more traditionally minded readers are going to hate us for this, but here’s the thing. Selena has this tendency, like a lot of child stars transitioning into adulthood, to dress way too formally and way too mature a lot of the time. So we did tiny gay gasps when we saw how fresh and cute she looked here:

The makeup looks fresh, the hair looks soft, the shoes are KILLA, the top is pretty and if you can’t wear glittery hot pants to a horror movie premiere as a teenager, when CAN you wear them? You WERQ that shit, little girl! Love your earrings!

I looked it up, she’s 19 even if she does have a baby face, & that’s quite a modest look for most 19 year old actresses.

The shoes are awesome. I’d like a little less volume in the top with those shorts. Not a whole lot less — not so it’s super tight — just take in the sleeves a little, and nip it at the waist a little.

I love tops like that. It does look like something someone at least a bit older would wear, though. Maybe it’s not age; maybe it’s that she projects such youthfulness, as opposed to sophistication. I like the outfit, and she looks great. Just a bit of a disconnect for me – - I guess because I would absolutely wear that top (not w/ the shorts), and I’m old enough to be her *gasp* *ouch* *eek* grandmother. VERY YOUNG grandmother, mind you, but technically it’s *head exploding* true.

She’s one of my favorites of that whole group of Disney & Nick teen stars. (I am subjected to them by my 12 yo daughter.)

I really don’t like formal shorts, but I will grudgingly admit she looks cute in them. The blouse and shoes are the perfect balance to those glittery shorts. Even though, as you say, she often dresses too maturely, she usually hits all the right notes.

This is definitely one of those looks that you can say only look good on a certain age. Selena looks cute and totally appropriate. Now, picture Jennifer Lopez or Sarah Jessica Parker in this. Painful.

Love this look! I wish more young celebs would take this route. She looks fun and fresh and adorable. Those shorts could have easily looked hooker but the fact they aren’t skin tight or slitted anywhere makes them cute instead. Classier than most miniskirts, imo. Perfect look for the event.

I really can’t get behind that top. Everything else shouts werq, but the top just ruins it for me. It just seems to be hanging there without any definable shape. Really can’t see how the whole look is getting such praise.

Yeah, agreed with the TLo and the Kitten Nation – she looks HAWT. Somehow I don’t mind super-short shorts as much as super-short skirts. I mean, Daisy Dukes are going too far, but these aren’t tight, and the blousy top makes it WERQ. And I like the slightly lighter hair color too.

  I think (as a twenty one year old) that looks like these tend to be more about whether or not the wearer has nice legs. Like a friend of mine in her forties takes care of herself so she looks nicer in a flirtly, floral tight on the top cocktail dress then someone of the peeps my age. If you are only 33 and you have the legs for it, do it!
