WERQ: Charlize Theron in Christian Dior

Charlize is another one of those gals who we suspect has been told her whole life how gorgeous she is and subsequently recoils from putting the work in for public appearances. Basically, if it’s not the Oscars, her red carpet getups give off the distinct whiff of don’tgivafuck: very simple, occasionally unflattering outfits and minimal makeup. The classic “Pulling a Jolie” effort.

And while this is a very simple look, it’s also a very chic one and we think she looks fantastic. Not super-crazy about the eye-shadow, which makes her look like she got punched in the face ten days ago, but hey, she put the effort in and besides, we can’t honestly say anything looks bad here. Cute dress, SUPER-cute clutch, and simple black pumps. You WERQ that shit, girl.

  I said the same thing about the make-up. Now I’m wondering if this looked pretty in person, but just didn’t photograph well. Because I’m having a hard time believing that she and her makeup artist were actually going for the pale and sickly look.

I hate that color eye shadow on white women. (I don’t honestly know that it looks good on any woman, but I know it doesn’t on any white ones) Who looks at eyeshadow and goes “This mimics what my eyelids look like after 3 days without sleep — PERFECT!”

I hate the hair. It looks like it was supposed to be a one-shoulder thing, but her hair wasn’t long enough.

Dress is… acceptable. A bit dull, but acceptable. She could do much better.

  Yes! On the few occasions I wear eye shadow, I do it to cover up eyelids that look like Theron’s here.

  If the color wasn’t extended to the inner eye, it could work. It’s because of the exaggerated shape of the shadow that it off.

    I agree! The shape looks messy, but brown/bronze eyeshadow works great for me. Uh, I hope.

  Aww, that makes me sad. Although I agree that the ways it’s been applied here is too heavy, I’ve never felt that anything other than bronze browns suits my pale skin and blue eyes. Darker colours look too heavy and light colours don’t make any impact at all. My eyelids go purple when I lose sleep, so that yellow undertones of this shade balance them out.

      Right. I had a make up application that used the purple. I was hesitant because of the bruising effect it resembles, but she taught me how to do it well.
      Bronze, I love! (Just maybe not as heavily.)

The awful eyeshadow and hair make me want to downgrade this from a WERQ to an In. The eye makeup is particularly bad because she had little to no lip or cheek color, so she looks like the walking dead. Crap, now I’m even talking myself out of the In.

I really like that dress, My only quibble is that the straps of the lining or slip thing aren’t better disguised at the shoulders. Love the bag.

It’s a lovely little dress, but I, too wondered about the slip. It looks a bit sloppy and ruins the look of the dress. I don’t know what to say about her eye make-up other than it looks consumptive or like an amateur make-up artist applied it.

I like the dress, but her makeup and half-assed hair makes it look like they were trying to get everything above the neck to disappear into the shadows.

Don’t like it. The pumps are dowdy and the dress looks like something you get from Loft to wear to the office holiday party. It’s not awful, but someone as gorgeous as her should look better than office-hot.
