Precious unborn fawns, does work-a-day drudgery have you feeling down? Do you sometimes fantasize more about an imaginary maid than an imaginary lover? Do you find yourself wishing that you looked like a model after a day of cleaning baseboards and scrubbing toilets? Well Vogue Italia (and T Lo) knows exactly what you need more of in your life.

Ruby Aldridge as a domestic goddess in an editorial titled “Home Chic” in the October 2011 issue of Vogue Italia, styled by Cathy Kasterine. All looks by Blumarine.

COLOR, darlings. Bright, bold, glorious color; a world where one’s ensemble always perfectly coordinates with one’s kitchen. Don’t you agree that one’s dress should always complement the dishes one just threw on the floor in a fit of ’60s suburban housewife ennui? Shouldn’t one always deal with a leaky faucet in 4-inch heels?

No? Well, let’s all pretend we live in this world for the next couple of seconds, then.

Just once I’d like for the Hubs to come home and see me in that red dress, with that hair and that expression holding his dinner tray with dinner actually prepared. He would literally have a stroke. From the fact that I successfully cooked and didn’t burn down the house. Or my eyebrows.

These photos are hilarious! I especially love how the model is gripping the butcher knife in the dishwasher shot.

I find the photoshopping of the model to be totally creepy. I seriously can’t tell if she’s a mannequin or a real person in some of these shots. That may be the point, but…creepy, nonetheless.

Somehow, I have absorbed from the dominant culture that a woman with breasts, legs and hair like that shouldn’t have to be doing housework if she (as so clearly she is) is angry and resentful and fed up about it. Especially if she is flinging said legs about in a short skirt.

Was this fashion editorial dreamed up by people from Mars? Persons who have not watched televisions??

Is it wrong that I LIKE the lace in the bright yellow? I couldn’t wear it in a million years (pale skin, dark hair, yellow=corpse city), but it makes me think I would enjoy lace in lime green, fuchsia, etc. It’s different, anyway.

How unusual. For once I enjoyed a fashion editorial. The clothes are hiddy (those colors! ugh!) but the styling is hilarious and the storyline amusing.

For my mom, heels, lipstick and everything in between were considered de rigueur for anything from vacuming to cooking. (“That’s what aprons are for darling, now fetch mommy the creme de menthe and I’ll show you a simple dinner party desert”) When we closed up the house, I snagged her 40′s black lace apron with attached red silk flower.
