Vera Wang Fall 2012 Bridal Collection

Honestly, the color’s a bit weird (I’ve never minded the whites and ivories etc.) but otherwise, I think the dresses are generally gorgeous. It is Vera Wang after all, queen of the wedding dress. The hair is also really dirty and depressing looking but still, pretty dresses!

It looks like the bride fell off her horse and was dragged through the mud.

I want this to catch on. Because I want to be able to wear white dresses without thinking “nah, too bridal.”  If brides start wearing gross taupe colors, I’ll never have to worry about looking bridal again!

Overall, ugh.  Though I LOVE the 8th one (black lace over tan)…I think Vera got lost in the fact that the demographic that would adore these dresses is NOT the demographic that can afford a Vera Wang wedding dress!

And I have to admit, there’s something nauseating about the one with the Rapunzel attachment.

I think the “Getting Married at the Meth Lab” styling is what kills it.  I might have a better reaction to most of these if they were styled in a chic, Vera-Wang-bride kind of way.

Fifth one down…is that HAIR with the entwining flowers or bows or whatever?  Is this Rapunzel?

Whatever, I freaking LOVE this collection. I would totally get married in the sleeveless v-neck black mermaid gown. And Vera has experimented with color before – she’s already done lilac and celadon dresses, to name a few. I am saving my money now for one of these.

Oh, You have no idea just how many people probably want to embody a vampire on their wedding day. I think the depressing look comes less from the dresses and moreso from the styling of the models (particularly the hair)

Oh, you watch, the sheeple with money will be snatching up these horrid looks.  You think she could have run a comb through her model’s hair?? Seems like she lost interest. 

OMG after reading TLo’s intro it’s just too hilarious looking at the messy limp hair and makeup-free faces and frowns, I can’t concentrate on the dresses yet. 

Can you imagine the looks on the faces of the senior family members, both sides, if the bride showed up in a black gown? I’d like an aisle seat for that wedding, please.

I love them. I’ve been married for a long time and wore green. But if I were young, rich, tall, thin and getting married now, I would love one of them. 

Suitable for shotgun weddings, arranged marriages, and goth-themed marital events. I hope each dress comes with a complimentary set of plastic vampire fangs. The last one with the black netting is $39.99 at Walmart with a wig.

#2 and #4 are gorgeous – they just need better styling. I do agree with the commentariat that most people would say “WTF?” if a bride walked down the aisle in one of  these. I understand white is a relatively new color to the bridal palette, but I think at least the colors should look joyous for an occasion like this – reds, greens, purples, blues and such.

Well, I think she was watching the umpteenth episode of Say Yes to the Dress and just SNAPPED. 

But god help me, I love them.

SAY WHAT?! Bridal, my arse. But some of these would be interesting to see on the Red Carpet.

It’s the styling. They look like Ophelia after the mad scene.

I think if the hair and makeup wasn’t so ‘corpse found in woods,’ it wouldn’t be so depressing.  Some of them are pretty.  except the one with hair on the skirt.  WTF is that? 

if the idea was to make her models look unwashed and consumptive.. i’d say she succeeded…..

I would’ve LOVED a black wedding dress! It would’ve been a nice “IN YOUR FACE!” to that whole loathsome concept of “the vigrinal bride”.

The black ones are obviously for when you wed your boy-toy the week after your elderly, rich first husband drops dead. Mourning and bridal in one dress.

Are we sure that is a bridal collection?  The models look so glum.  I like some of the dresses.

I love the eighth dress, and I normally hate strapless gowns. The beige/taupe/teastain dresses read “broken antique doll” to me, and I don’t *think* that’s just the styling, but I could be wrong.

Wow, it just seems like they mis-labeled the collection or something.  These dresses are quite beautiful as evening wear, but even at that that–the color of dirt is not so pretty.  These would be stunning in black, and almost any other color but “dirt”.  I suppose the real name is Celebration Caramel or something, but ugh!

Some of the dresses are gorgeous nonetheless.  Just yesterday I saw a “Say Yes To The Dress” episode with a black dress.  Granted it was for a biker chick or something… 

Some of these dresses are so beautiful they take my breath away.  But the context of wedding for these dresses is really out there.

I absolutely LOVE that they’re finally upending that whole white=bridal trope. That pleases me greatly. Regardless, these don’t speak as bridal to me. I do love the black lace over taupe one, though.

Wow!!  I can’t believe how many people are seriously opposed to these!  I don’t consider myself a “goth princess” or “steampunk” aficionado of any sort and (if I chose to pay that much) I could afford to buy Vera Wang for my wedding – I see no problem with any of these and would gladly welcome any of them (except the post-it note one).  They designs are beautiful and not as traditional as Wang usually is.  And the black and taupe colors totally work together – way better than stark black and white and I do agree that some ivories would have been a really great color addition to the collection.

I had a white wedding dress when I got married and have always regretted doing exactly what everyone else does.  Everyone needs to chill out and open their eyes just a tiny bit to see that we don’t all have to do the same thing all the time.

Vera Wang’s “One in Three Marriages Ends in Divorce So We May As Well Look Like We’re In Mourning Right from the Start” Bridal Collection.  Seriously, I’m not totally against some color in a wedding gown, but these look like all the brides are in mourning.  It’s just sad and pathetic.  Some of the designs might work with a different color.  But overall, it’s not even a meh.  It’s more like a bleh.

I’m not crazy about any of the beige or beige/black dresses. That just seems a hard color to wear for any skin tone. SYYTD has had a few blush/pink gowns that looked really pretty, especially on WOC, I like the lacy black and the next to the last one for a goth wedding.  The styling for all of these is just depressing.

I just looked back through these dresses and honestly, I wouldn’t want to wear a single one of them as a wedding gown, regardless of the color.  Vera needs some antidepressants.  Stat.

The dresses are still sleeveless and I’m still bored.

Are the black gowns for brides or bridesmaids? Because the white or off white gown thing is so strongly ingrained in our wedding culture that I can’t see many brides choosing black. Bridesmaids, maybe. 

Apparently all the models are being forced to marry abusive scum and spend the rest of their lives in tarpaper shacks with no plumbing or heat.

The models are pretty scary, but I liked most of the dresses.  I don’t know that there will be a boom of black and taupe wedding dresses anytime soon…

Honestly, I like most of these looks. A lot. Some are downright gorgeous.
And IMO, color is irrelevant. Because if a bride wants one of these in white, chances are, she’s gonna be able to get it. I think Vera Wang used color here to make the dresses (and in some cases the details) stand out.

The gowns are all gorgeous and very Vera, but what on earth was she thinking with those colors and the styling on those models?  Picturing them all in ivory or ash grey with pretty hair and makeup, I’m blown away.

I’m all for non-traditional wedding dresses, but this? All I can think of is “fog.” I’m not sure I would want to look like fog on my wedding day.

Plus the lighting at this show makes the models look ghastly, sick and tired.

The last one is gorgeous.  I can see someone wearing that on the red carpet, or wearing a white version of that in a wedding.

It’s nice to see Vera recycling packing material in such an artful way.

Well…sigh.  I don’t remember ever being a huge fan of Vera’s, but she has been using texture in really interesting ways the past couple seasons.  That said, wrinkly tulle is an unattractive choice.  Now color:  black – losing it’s taboo for weddings, sure…but I’m not ready for black brides yet.  Black bridesmaids, though, very classic.  Don’t get me started on her choices in the taupe range.  Whites and ivory work well because they light up a bride, and even on blonde models (which USUALLY work beige and golds fine)…sickening.

Kinda love some of these but the broom fiber hair is killing me.

yikes.  the styling plus the colors definitely scream suicide bride. 

I LOVE these.  Love the colors, love the shapes, love the styling, love.  Hooray for unconventional brides.

Not joyous clothing for what is usually thought of as a joyous event. I hate the beige. And I LOATHE the seaweed hair. Can we just be done with hideous, weedy, dead-looking hair now?

Does Vera think she can throw any old crap down the runway and people will buy it?  These are all awful and they would be even if they were white.  

Ok, speaking of hair, does it not look like there’s a Rapunzel tail on the side of the dress in #5?

And the colors… I know we’re in a recession, but we don’t want to actually look like we’re recreating the Great Depression at our weddings.

Though I’d wear some of these dresses, which have an amazing sweep and structure, to a non-wedding event.

Looks like they all went through the wash with muddy boots.  I’m all for breaking free of white, but this is downright dirty.

Seriously – wedding dresses?  How depressing looking for a supposedly joyful occasion.  If the last dress were in white or ivory, it would be the traditional princess dress (not necessarily a good thing), but overall a very depressing collection.

These dresses say more “red carpet” than “white aisle”.

I love this collection, it is gorgeous!  The crime here is the hair and make up!!  Truly an awful direction to go in with this collection.  Take any of the looks, block out the hair and replace with soft, classic waves or chic chignons and these will take on a very different vibe.

Some of those are absolutely gorgeous. And I’ve kind of always imagined that if I got married, I would wear white/champagne and my fiancee would wear black. There will be no pantsuits in my lesbian wedding!

Beauteous. I the dusty old attic quality of the colors and rumpled textures, Also love the disheveled hair and minimal make-up.

I love her work, but yeah, this seems like she’s costuming the Walking Dead spring wedding episode or something. 

Meh, smiling on your wedding day is out. The new thing is getting lost in the woods for three hours and showing up at the very end of the reception.

Although I will say that the very last dress is gorgeous and if I were the marrying type, I’d want to get married in that one. But the browns? Gag.

The one with the black lace overlay was kind of pretty, but I still wouldn’t wear it. Who wants to look like a crazy 21st century version of Miss Havisham on their wedding day?!?

The taupe brown ones are Miss Havisham ready–no languishing for years in your mansion required.

Really depressing. They styling is horrible. Are these women being dragged through the dust to alter against their will?

That seventh one (first black & tan) looks like she’s walking  down the aisle wearing an enormous vagina. I’ve seen Georgia O’Keefe paintings that were less suggestive.
