That would a great coat with an entirely different ensemble. Very slim black trousers, hitting slightly above the ankle with a good black heeled boot. Lose the purse, the ankle booties, the hair do, and whatever yellow blouse action is going on underneath. KH’s charms have always escaped me. She does have killer legs though.

That coat- which i happen to think is hella extra and fabulous- looks really dumb with shorts. Even if it were a mini, i could see it, but the open collar and the yellow top ruin the gorgeous collar and just make her look like she’s swimming in this coat that is obviously too warm for wherever she is, since homie in the last shot behind her isn’t even wearing a coat. And her hair + glasses look very Erma Bombeck.

Yes, but I feel a little sorry for her. Not for having chosen that godawful jacket, but because do you want people all over the world to have a look at you when you’re pumping gas? I sure don’t! I never fill up the car when I’m on my way to somewhere I’ve dressed for (godawful sentence, but you get the idea, right?). I fill up the car, like, after I’ve been doing yard work for four hours. Cause I don’t want to get gas on my nice clothes.

Someone else said, however, that her peeps probably called the paps so they’d be able to run out and take these photos, so maybe I just don’t understand the intricacies of the Fame Whore Life.

What perplexes me about this (said in Tim Gunn voice) is that she is wearing a winter coat with shorts in LA. I’m from the North Country of New England, where this coat’s maximum temp would be about 40 degrees. And certainly no one wears shorts when it’s 40º out.

I actually adore the coat – with collar done up. KH wearing it here just looked like she used the first 68º day in LA to pull out her winter coat and show it off or something.

Unlike you guys – I think the leopard booties with this get up are ridiculous.

I too pump my gas at Valero, it is always cheaper and they donate a portion of the money to the local Animal Shelter.
Which has nothing to do with her outfit. It is 90/65 in Tucson today not really coat weather.

I think the shorts (sort of) work with the model because they’re shorter/less visible so it sort of just looks like the coat is a dress.

When I lived in LA I always sat inside my car while my gas was pumping, because I was inevitably panhandled by some methhead. Didn’t matter what neighborhood I was in – it always happened. So why she’s blithely standing around while her tank fills is beyond me. Also, I never saw anyone pumping gas in LA dressed in this manner, though I did once see a woman pumping in a Snuggie.

In NY you have stand at the pump. At self service pumps they have taken the thingy off the handle which allows the gas to flow without you holding it. Yes it sucks. It really sucks when its cold.

The coat is great, but clearly inspired by Bonnie Cashin, the “mother of American sportswear”. The brass turnlocks, the leather trim, the clean lines, all Cashin. Cashin was an early designer for Coach bags as well.But of course Rachel Zoe, as a fan of 60s and 70s vintage, would be very familiar with Bonnie Cashin’s work.

Sheesh, what’s with all the haters here? First of all, EVERYONE wears coats in LA as soon as the calendar says so. This is a Rachel Zoe coat, after all, and she’s about as LA as you can get. It’s probably not that heavy. And it could also have been chilly — not East Coast or Rocky Mountain chilly, but enough for a light outer garment. She’s probably posing because someone is taking a picture of her, duh. If this were Tilda Swinton, everyone would be wetting themselves to praise her.

Its that cold in LA? I am in NYC area we just haven’t had that weather to pull out the heavy coats.

I hate pumping gas. I really hate pumping gas when I am dressed nice. You always get gas on yourself. Nothing like combination of Channel no. 5 and gas. I will ride around looking for a station with service unless I am on fumes. NJ never gets enough credit for their policy of no self service gas stations.

I love the look but the collar does look better on the model. However we wouldn’t want Katherine in an accident because of an obstructed view for styling reasons. Though. I would imagine, Rachel would disagree.

I am not seeing a problem with her hair. You do wonder if this scene was a bit of set-up to promote Zoe’s fashion designs.

We actually do get some cooler weather here in Southern California. Maybe not enough for that coat but…. We also get weird weather dressers: people in winter wearing shorts and flip flops, really not warm enough for that and then the people wearing parkas, gloves, scarves and hats, really not cold enough for that.
