Damn, suddenly everyone wants to put Kate in heavy eye makeup.

On her breakup with director Sam Mendes: “One thing I will say about me and Sam is that it’s fine, it’s really fine. I’m not going to s—fling, there’s no point in even going there. It is what it is… We’re grown-ups at the end of the day, and however hard it’s been for me, it’s been equally hard for him. And we have a child together who we both love – and raising him together, jointly and without any conflict, is absolutely key. It’s the only way to do it, and I’ve really learnt that with Mia.”

On modern families: “Those days of every child having a mummy and daddy who lived at home – Daddy went to work, and Mummy stayed at home and took care of everyone – those days have almost gone, and it’s so much more unconventional now”

On her future: “I feel that I’m just at the beginning of a new narrative, and it’s incredibly exciting. It’s complicated, I know, and uncertain – but it’s where life happens, between the cracks. It can be a painful process, but I truly hope that never stops for me.”

It’s in many ways the boilerplate divorced actress interview. We’re just glad that she didn’t break out the “As a mother, entertainer, and person” line.

Is it us, or are these some mighty unflattering pictures of her? She looks pretty good on the cover, but the inside shots are kind of awkward, no?

Gorgeous as she is, she is not a model. Her real beauty only comes out in the motion of her face and form through space. This is yet another attempt to make her into some sort of iconic Monroesque beauty.

  So right Mr. Kilted and Tilted – Kate Winslet is all about the voice, the movement of her face, that sassy vibe and twinkle that you get when you see her acting or being interviewed. I would not have recognized ONE of these photos if her name hadn’t been attached. I’d have thought I was looking at another generic, photoshopped, peroxided, mannequin-like carbon-based creature.

It’s not just you, these are some unfortunate pictures. I don’t think the heavy eyeliner is Kate’s look. The cover isn’t bad – love the dress, but inside pics are just harsh…or something.

I think she looks gorgeous, but not much like herself at all. Don’t like the under-eye heavy liner, but upper lid is fine. It’s a different look for her, and fine as a one-off.

  I was thinking the same thing about the top vs. bottom lid liner. Probably doesn’t help that the bottom liner is a bit messed up in a couple of the photos, and the concealer is visible in the b&w ones, making her look even more raccoonish.

I don’t like any of these looks. The hair is too blonde and the heavy liner looks like it was applied with a sharpie. She just seems so fake these days. Trying to hard with the too tight dresses and photo shoots like this just aren’t endearing.

Ugh. Fail. I miss red head Kate. The one that you wouldn’t presume to blow smoke up every-person-ever’s arse to get more attention/clothing/thinness/blondeness/Oscar.

But I will say… I actually preffer the last 3 (Ignoring the titty shot) shots. They look a bit more ‘in the moment’ and a little less “Mutton as lamb.”

Thought the first two inside ones were the worst. the third is pretty although looks very fake. Last one not bad.

I know it is considered “old-fashioned” but her interview makes me sad to think about how few children now get to grow up in the type of family (non-modern?) that she described. (that I and most of friends had; my brothers kids are the only ones in my circle who had that experience (consistently) in this generation)

Weird. In some pictures I’m getting nuances of Elizabeth Hurley, in others Marilyn Monroe. Either way, the liner is too heavy, especially on the upper lid. :/ Too bad. She has a killer bod now.

The problem with this is that what makes Kate Winslet special as an actress is that she always seems so relatable and approachable. She makes you want to have a conversation with her, just kind of hang out, you don’t get the feeling that she’s some kind of alien celebrity creature. But this kind of ruins that for me.

      Let me clarify, i would never, ever intend to diminish her incredible acting abilities, they are certainly head and shoulders above many of her fellow actresses. my comment was solely intended to call in question her styling choices of late, not just here but elsewhere. To my eye, she has moved away form her original and unique sense of individuality that always drew me to her as a person. I could always pick her out of a crowd immedietaly and now I feel she has adopted a more standard “glam” look that is less original to my eyes.

The eye makeup is terribly distracting and actually takes away from her eyes which are her best feature. And you’re right about the inside shots, T Lo. Is it the return of the 1960s eye? I have to say, I think it looks good on her. The third photo is the one I like, although I too am wearying of Monroe Redux.

She’s an actress. Doing a photo shoot. With a stylized concept. And airbrushing. Of course she’s not going to look exactly like herself. It’s funny that people are expecting ‘normal Kate’ when it’s a photo shoot. It’s not like this is her regular style in real life. Stylists will experiment with makeup, designs, clothing, camera tricks, etc. It was a very concept-driven, 60s mod-inspired shoot, much like how V magazine was a Taylor-inspired shoot. Oh and doesn’t the second-to-last picture looks like a camera trick put to use? If she were facing the camera directly we’d probably see her curvy silhouette.
