In or Out: Leelee Sobieski in Jil Sander

I just really don’t like that drab color palette…

This is a look that sinks or swims on styling, IMO. The severe hair and relative lack of makeup give the sister-wife vibe — the runway look is just as dreary. But imagine this with a softer hair treatment, more interesting makeup and some jewelry. I think it could be pretty cool.

But as is, out.

There can be no 2.0. OUT.

She looks clean and much better than usual, so she gets an IN from me. I’m looking forward to all those more clever than I for the Sister Wives references.

Hmm. I get the issues with it – it just looks HUGE. But yet. I like it. I like the colors. I like the shape if not the scale. I mean, look at that collar. It’s HUGE!  It’s interesting and might work, but I don’t think these are colors for her, nor can she rock the scale of it. This is not her look.  I’m not sure who WOULD rock it. Maybe Tilda Swinton with a dark dyejob?

I kind of love it? I dunno, something about her teeny waist (although anyone’s waist would look teeny swathed in that much fabric) and the blue of the shirt with her eyes makes it really striking. Kind of Katherine Hepburn-y, I think. Although I do think the shirt could be a little more fitted, keeping the volume of the skirt, and it might be a little less sister-wife like. I still say IN.

Out but I have to say.. I don’t hate the skirt.  I think you could make it work with the right top and shoes.

OUT. I don’t mind it on the model, although I don’t love it on her either. I think this is one of those looks that requires a stick figure. Boobage ruins the line of the Amish blouse and hippage makes the pleating of the skirt wonky. I think the bold lip on the model helps the overall look quite a lot. I just think these two pieces, while seemingly simple, are very difficult to wear properly in the real world.

I don’t hate it but don’t love it enough to give it an In. I just don’t think she’s fierce enough to pull this off.

Too dark for sister wife. (don’t they favor pastels?) That looks more like Amish blue to me.

Not sister wife as in Mormon but as in Hutterite.  Mormons dress better.

My first reaction was an out, but I kept looking at it, and the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. More importantly, it made me want to continue looking at it. Which brings us to: IN.

Yuck. So very ugly. OUT!

I’m feeling generous. It’s clean, it’s different–IN.

I kind of love it. Can’t think why. A richer lipstick would help give it a more finished feel though.

That color combo while good on paper looks terrible photographed. Sister wife business casual, OUT.

I pretty much love it. She’s pulled a Tilda. I say IN for daring to go where only sister-wives have gone before.

IN! I’m with Lo she looks fabulous. I love Jil Sander minimal looks precisely because they aren’t crotch-baring folded napkin dresses.

In, for the novelty factor if nothing else, but if she continues to dress like this all the time, it won’t be long before it’s an out.

IN. Love. Though from the thumbnail I mis-saw her as Chloe Sevigny, which is kind of hilarious given her outfit.

OH NO.  Perhaps you’re so depressed by Anya’s horrible win that anything looks good to you. Whose blouse did she steal? Oprah’s? Somebody better go look and see if Oprah is topless somewhere.

It’s Swintonesque for sure but she could’ve really gone for it by doing something more with her hair. Love the skirt but the shirt is all wrong on her. Her boobs look like they are way south of their actual location.  Out.

This would be a great look if she gained 10 pounds or had hair that balanced out her jawline. As it is she looks frighteningly gaunt.  OUT.

I like the top but hate the skirt. OUT, due to the overwhelmingness of the skirt.

Did she go shopping at the Amish Big & Tall store? If the skirt was a different color I would have no problem with this outfit,but so much despairing brown melts it into a big puddle of Out.  

But it is always nice to see Miss LeeLee.

I don’t think it’s chic or original. It looks homemade and cheap. As a matter of fact, I think I did make outfits like that in sewing class!

I’m with Tom here. I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it as much as I could. I love it on the model, but maybe it’s Leelee’s bazooms that are throwing off the lines for me. I feel like that’s what makes it prim as opposed to androgynous. And the styling is fairly uninspired. I vote EHHH.

LOVE this from Jil Sander, just gorgeous.  I think it needs a really great, architectural cuff and stronger make up.  But I will give her an IN anyway.

If you’re going to borrow the older, bigger sister-wife’s clothes, at least tailor them to fit.

Hmmmmm, I don’t hate it. This is definitely a step up for her but given her consistent fashion faux pas that isn’t saying a whole lot. But, you know, she’s actually showing some sense of style here so I’ll go against the grain and give her an IN.

I’m going to give her an IN…I’ve always liked her, and she looks beautiful and sophisticated here.  It’s not her fault the skirt is too full and too long–that’s how it was designed.  I think if the skirt were more of a column, this would have been a total WERQ.

IN. Swinton 2.0.  And I was thinking that before I even got to your vote now comments.  The outfit is severe, but it highlights her eyes and gives her some Swinton cool vibe.

It’s cool, but it’s a little too long. It’s wearing her instead of her wearing it. I’ll give it an IN, with points deducted for the imperfect execution necessary for this to work.

OUT. I don’t think this is at all fashionable. It looks like a shirt that’s too big paired with a skirt that’s too long. 

Sure fashion chic if you are Amish.  Seriously, I dress like this alot.  Long loose skirt ( I have to loose 42 pounds), with colorful loose shirt (I’m busty).  What’s so chic and original about this?  No earrings, snatched back hair.  Where’s the chic?

Surprising even myself, IN. It could easily read as siste-wife but there’s something about it that’s really working. A certain je ne sais quoi. The shape of the skirt is really interesting, the way it comes back in toward the ankles, and that blouse does amazing things for her eyes. She’s making it look good.

In.  Not a fan of the hair, lack of make-up/accessories, or the fit of the top, but overall it makes an impression.  Makes me think of Kikyo and other feudal-ish costumes.  Also, of Katharine Hepburn.

Henh. I guess it’s IN! Very fashion drawing. Very designish. This look is the Anna Wintour of the sister wife league. She looks stunning, anyway.

I like the odd proportions and the minimalism.  In, I say!

I’m going with IN. She is not Swinton, of course, but this feels almost like an American kimono. I’m impressed that I got an oriental vibe off this very not-oriental look.

Out–I can’t look at it without imagining tripping on that skirt all night… plus, it’s just not aesthetically pleasing.

In.  Both she and the dress are gorgeous

IN…sort of.  Does anyone remembering wearing shirts like this during the late 80′s early 90′s (probably with a bolo tie)?  The high waist skirt looks familiar too, although it would have been short, not a maxi.  Overall, it’s an interesting look, so for me it’s an IN, but only marginally due to the maxi skirt, which I’m not sure I like or dislike.

I’d love it more with the shirt just a tad smaller, not loosing the flowy-bigness just a little of the volume, and I really want a little belt in the huge waistband… The color of the shirt is killa with her eyes, and props for being ‘out of the box’ – but she’s not at Swinton level yet – so OUT

I… am puzzled. I don’t get what would be read as fabulous about this, help? I see a very pretty girl in her brother’s work shirt and the skirt her much taller mother wears to funerals.

About the only thing I can see good about it is that the blue of the top of the dress is doing amazing things for her eyes. OUT, with much perplexity.

I love it!  IN.  I think she’s wearing it rather than the other way around, so even if it’s rather Swinton of her, she can pull it off.

I think she looks clean and dramatic. Girl cuts a striking figure when she wants to. I say IN, because it’s nice to see something different on a beautiful young starlet than a gyno dress or ball gown.

She’s gorgeous.  Love the skirt, love the colors.  I think I’d like the whole thing better if the blouse was unbuttoned.  Although I get that that’s probably not done.
