Florence Welch for Interview Magazine

Florence Welch covers the October 2011 issue of Interview magazine photographed by Craig McDean and styled by Karl Templer.
“I was always that girl growing up who you could find dancing down the supermarket aisle.”
We feature a TON of celebrity fashion editorials here, but most of the time, it’s conventionally pretty ladies wearing conventionally pretty clothes, smiling into the camera or looking off into the distance. Nothing wrong with that; we’ve certainly praised quite a few of them for it; but it does get a bit old after awhile. What we love about these pictures is that it’s not simply a pretty girl in pretty clothes. Flo really knows how to work a camera. Not in the, say, Beyonce or Rihanna sense; just that she has loads of charisma and a real sense of herself. We’re going to piss off any of the old punks in the readership, but she reminds us quite a bit of a young Patti Smith that way – if Patti had liked wearing makeup and lots of really expensive clothes.
