Cover Girl: Kristen Stewart for Glamour

So a couple of days ago we pissed off an army of Kristen Stewart fan girls on twitter because we didn’t like her spread for GQ and didn’t think the retro glam looks they styled her in really suited her looks or her personality. We will never, no matter how long we do this fabulous job, ever understand when people get offended on behalf of celebrities. Kristen Stewart didn’t shed one tear over our comments if she even heard them at all and if she did, well… she can cry herself to sleep on a pile of fur-lined bags of money, as far as we’re concerned. But we’re pretty sure she doesn’t give a shit what we think.

Anyway. We seem to have gone off on a tangent. Where we were? Oh! We also said at the time:

“If we were styling her for a shoot, we’d be much more inclined to go the jeans, natural makeup, and blown out hair look with her, but everyone seems to want to dress her up like an old Hollywood star. Don’t get us wrong; she looks very pretty in all of these shots. She just doesn’t look like herself.”

It’s slightly more glamorous and girly on the inside, but they wisely mitigated it by pairing the dress with some boots and the lace shorts and heels with a t-shirt. This is how you style a girl like her. She should always have her makeup done this way.

It’s scary how the K-Stew “stans” come to her “rescue” when someone criticizes how she looks. I agree with you two about looked overly stiff in the GQ photoshoot. She’s 20 years old, she doesn’t want to dress up in couture, she wants to wear fun clothes!

I’m not a fan of her’s, but I really like this shoot, she looks way more relaxed and at home with less make up and more casual clothes.

The sad thing is your readers have to be slightly older and they are still defending a creepy 20 something who complains about being rich and famous (boo hoo hoo. you either have privacy or money. you made the choice). She does look better in the Glamour shoot. Could also be she knew who her readers were going to be and wasn’t totally comfortable with the GQ set…

Oh, you gentlemen understand. You know that somehow, a great deal of people intertwine their own sense of self with their favorite stars. The celeb’s choices become personal. So when you ‘dis a photo spread featuring them, you are, in essence ‘dissing the fan.

It’s funny, because from the articles and interviews I’ve seen with Ms. Stewart, the thing that I admire is what seems to be a healthy perspective on fame and stardom. She appears to take it with a grain of salt–which apparently pisses a lot of people off.

  It’s got a real lace table cloth vibe. In fact, my grandmother gave me a crocheted one for Christmas a few years back, and though I couldn’t make a sleeve to mimic this dress, I probably could drape and pin it into a dress not unlike the orange number Clinique Counter showed on PR last week.

    Open mouth = sexy. Because when straight men see a picture of a beautiful woman with an open mouth, they imagine putting their penis in it. And if that mental visual is compelling enough, they will buy the magazine with those pictures. Hence, the many, many magazine covers of women all gape-mouthed and vacant looking.
    
    She looks very nice, but she’s always been a terrible actress. Ever see the Panic Room? She was exactly as she is now and she was what, 10 yrs old max in that movie? Anyways, the terrible acting is perfect for her life as Bella Swan. There couldn’t be a more perfect creature in all the land that could pull that character off, not for another million years. From the look of her to the hilariously shitty acting, she’s perfect. PERFECT. One hundred thousand percent Bella.

  Dress = hideous. Pose = possibly more so. The whole thing is, as La Nina might say, “AESTHETICALLY NOT PLEASING,” and she looks as wildly uncomfortable there as she ever has. (No small feat, that.)

I love Kristen Stewart — the kid is just so painful, I feel the urge to give her a cookie and tuck her in every time I see her. So if you guys had said that she was a horrible person with no taste, I could understand wanting to defend her. But as I recall, you called out the shoot stylist for doing her up in a way that didn’t suit her well. AND you said she looked great, just not comfortable. So what was the complaint?!?

Any way… she looks great and more like herself. Though I think she’d rather swap that bustier on the cover for a t-shirt.

  It’s ridiculous. But that cover shot has more than one anatomical unlikelihood, if not outright lie. (particularly what’s going on with her left leg position and the width of her left hip, or lack thereof — reminds me of those paper dolls/skeleton wall hangings with the hinged joints. Oh magazine photoshoppers, you live in a special visual world.)

If someone came up to me and said “Honey, ditch the overalls, you don’t look like yourself…..unless “yourself” wants to look like a milk maid. This girl is just awful, im sorry twihards but she sucks. She walks around with a puss on all the time, and as if there is a permanent smell under her nose. I guess thats her thing to look like shes a pissed off nasty cow. But from my perspective that is not what I would choose to be my “thing.”

I mean i had big issues with this girl and her ” i am not so hollywood” attitude or her giving the middle figer to paparazzis, but it’s obvious this kid’s been making efforts lately and she’s getting better.

  A sheer top should have a camisole (or tank), which can match or contrast with the skin or shirt. A light colored top should have a skin-colored bra underneath it (or as close as one can get). A bra is underwear and is meant to do its job an unobtrusively as possible.

Normally can’t stand her, absolutely love this photoshoot. I’m curious to see her in Snow White. While I tend to dislike her on principal (because I’m secretly a rebellious 12 year old!), I really want that movie to be good. She has the attitude to be a cool tough girl actress, and I’d love her to magically develop acting abilities and make a career out of that. We’ll see…

Not a fan of the clothes, but thank goodness there was at least an attempt to photograph her in what she feels most comfortable in. It shows. The makeup is gorgeous. Oh, and I want her legs in my next life.

I stand by my comment on the GQ post: I like that she’s trying more grown-up looks, though I don’t think the retro/Bettie Page thing is quite “her” enough to work for a red carpet style. W did better in the retro department. What I hate about this Glamour spread is the total lack of thought/creativity in the photographs. How boring it all is! The GQ spread was a mixed bag, but at least they had that great underwater shot (which could have been any random model, that was just a great photograph). This is like, minimal effort on staging. And I effing hate that Stella McCartney dress. No one can make that look good.

I wonder why no one has taken this girl down to a guitar shop and photographed her against the walls of guitars. That seems much more her speed.

Ah yes, it’s a scary thing when fans become fanatics.

I’m not one of her fantards myself, but I happen to think she’s a gorgeous girl and you guys are right; this is the look that suits her best and it’s the one she looks more comfortable in. There are a thousand different outfits they could put her in, as long as they keep this sort of casual feel that really works for her.
