Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 Collection
It’s always fun to try and guess ahead of time where the latest Marc Jacobs collection is going to pull its references from and what time and place in history it will evoke. Depression-Era country girl moves to the big city: rural-inspired looks with a ’20s feel evolving into flapper-inspired looks, staged like a Fosse production with Phillip Glass as the soundtrack. Hunh. Wouldn’t have guessed that. The man has a sense of drama to match his considerable sense of design and style. As is often the case with his runway shows, mental editing is required to break down the theatrical looks to wearable pieces but we love the dropped waists, gingham prints, cloche hats and flapper looks, all updated in sheers and shiny plastic-like fabrics in modern colors. He can look at any era or any style and always find some way to make it fresh or put his own spin on it.
