HP Project Runway Designer Reunion

Darlings, a fabulous time was had by all at the HP Project Runway Designer Reunion at the Empire Hotel in New York City. How do we know? Well, thanks to our fabulous new besties at NotMartha, we got invited, but because the Monique Lhuillier show across the street at Lincoln Center ran so late, we didn’t get there until about 40 minutes before it ended. We never saw so many drunk reality show contestants in our life. We’d love to say we have all kinds of insider-y information, but aside from chatting with Kara Janx, Emmett, the gals at NotMartha, Jay, and Peach, we didn’t have enough time to make the rounds. Still, it was the biggest, loudest Project Runway party we’ve ever attended. Thanks to HP for putting it together and a big thanks to Megan at NotMartha for making us her Plus-One.

The irony is, for all the incessant HP product placement, it appears that PR was responsible for the majority of sales and HP is officially going out of the tablet and computer business.

They will be focusing on printers from here on out. you know, like the printer Bert couldn’t get to work.

Call me old, call me dull, call me midwestern but why do so many fashion designers equate “designer” with “weird, crazy dresser”? What ever happened to the good old days of elegantly, impeccably turned out proffesionals like Coco Chanel, Halston, YSL, even Ralph Lauren dresses well (except when he is doing his “extreme cowboy drag”). Now, everybody thinks they are John Galliano or Betsy Johnson. They were original, everyone else is a dull wannabe copy. I think the most effective way to make a name these days would be to go the other direction. Just my opinion.

I have been told by many frineds and clients that I am a very good dresser, always neat and stylish when out. I buy a great deal of my clothes at Target, TJMaxx and marshalss and then fill in with a few carefully chosen key peices that make the statement. It really doesn’t take a great deal of money to look great.

    No, actually, it doesn’t. All it takes is a willingness to invest a bit of time and effort in the selection and care of ones wardrobe. Even if one can’t afford designer clothes, it is possible to find garments that are affordable and elegant. And to be impeccably dressed, one need only make sure that one’s clothing is clean, pressed, and fits properly, with buttons in place and no falling hems, and that one’s shoes are polished and the heels aren’t run down.

It has GOT to feel awful to not be able to revel in your success. I definitely feel that Mondo deserved the win. But he didn’t get it. She did. And while I definitely believe that Karma is a bitch, I pray that she has had a lot of incredible experiences that make up for not being able to feel comfortable around the PR crowd.

  I agree with you re: how it must feel to not be able to publicly enjoy your success. I was never a Gretchen fan. Her clothes were mostly awful and she was really annoying. But I’ve always believed she’s more clueless than she is evil. I think she was the target of some truly over the top venom. It wasn’t her fault that she won. The judges deserve any derision that was put out there.
  
  I also hope she does well in whatever she pursues. I’ve liked a lot of the jewelry she’s made, and I think that’s a more natural talent for her than fashion design.
  
  Maybe she’s decided to stay away from PR functions, and that living well is the best revenge.

I would not have recognized April. I would not have recognized Suede who, when he was on the show, looked like he was about 13 years old. I guess it’s the facial hair but it’s the eyebrows too. I dunno–he looks older and…scarier! Ping, Peach, Mila, and Joe Faris all look like they’re doing just fine.

I couldn’t care less about any of this season’s constestants, and I can’t imagine being in a room filled with them. Ew.

I was going to comment on who was looking good, but there were so many that it’d be tedious. Suffice to say *many* of the designers are looking not just better than on their season, but better than I’ve seen them in any other subsequent photos.

Glad Mondo apparently got a genuine smile out of Bert.

Someone noted on yesterday’s post that L’Wren Scott’s hair is too dark (or at least too monochromatically so) & it’s aging. These pictures brought that to mind. (Though her dress is fab, as is her smile.)

Regardless, away from all the stress he seems so much more relaxed, and that makes me happy. He is so adorable when he smiles, I haven’t been this giggly over a Project Runway designer since Nick Verreos.
