Balmain Spring 2012 Collection
This is new creative director Olivier Rousteing’s first collection and we’ve got to hand it to him for looking not just to toreadors for his inspiration, but also to Nudie Cohn, the legendary costumer of country western stars in the sixties. It’s rodeo chic, with glittering cowgirls in looks dripping with belts and buckles, embroidery, and lots and lots of metallic gold. Think Roy Rogers, Porter Wagoner, and latter day Elvis filtered through a runway lens; think of Vegas, the American Southwest, and Mexico mashed together. As usual for the house, it’s tight, sexy and embellished to within an inch of its life, but it’s also very fun.
