Interesting, intriguing, dramatic and sometimes stilted come to mind before pretty. My favorite is the two girls in the archway. Overall, too much detail is lost in the murk, at least on my monitor, to really enjoy most of the garments. Thanks for the runway photos, even more so than usual.

As Betty in my senior year of high school, I had the joy of having my the buttons on the front of my shirt pop off in the opening act (thanks a lot, costume crew). No one can hate the Crucible as much as I can.

Took me a while to get used to the conceit but now I like this. I particularly enjoy the effect in the Givenchy photo.

I liked the Givenchy too. I felt the editorial added a little something to the clothes that the runway lacked. Perhaps it was makeup and lighting – even though it was on the dark side.

Maybe the blush is a kind of homage to Vermeer, Rubens, and other painters who depicted women often very pale with defined spots of bright color on their cheeks.

I really love this editorial. It’s so beautifully composed, right down to the details, and to me I think it makes a nice change of pace in fashion.

That was as good as the Tilda Swinton spread. Smart evocation of Antwerp, with all the black ribbons,lace cuffs and collars, and that creepy, timeless past where everything looks way weird and unsettlingly insane (think Wisconsin Death Trip). The clothes are awesome and the unworldly accessories an dleather goods are perfect: they complete the whole fraking scene.

LOVE the Marc Jacobs and Valentino. Not too sure about the pilgrim collars as done by Louis Vuitton. That along with the styling of some of the other pieces is giving the editorial a Hester Prynne vibe for me.

Love the styling of the models and the shots! Having said that, I cannot get behind the frozen mid-motion/mannequinish posing. It’s a gimmick this spread really doesn’t require to work effectively. Compare the Ferragamo and the Valentino shot, in both the model emotes like there’s no tomorrow but the effect in the Valentino is ruined by the cartoonish pose.
Were I to PR judge this spread I’d call it ‘overworked’. (But so help me Frau Antje, the Ferragamo shot is fantastic!)

Love the McQueens and the Marc Jacobs…I’m quite the black/white/grey type of girl. Wish I had the bod and money for those! Of course, my styling would be VERY different LOL. I couldn’t carry the nun/pilgrim look.

I am obsessed by you and this fab blog. But please, you must, you have to, put your foot down and say “No, you nasty granny panties! You shall not mar the ultimate fantasy world with garments that suggest that they may be filled with a load of doo-doo, that look like doo-doo!” It is really not something that anyone over toddler age should wear, and it has marred the spectacular eye candy posted here. I beg you. Put your dainty feet down and vote nay!

Wonderful, really evokes the feel of the paintings.

I’d love to see the insides of those McQueens! They look deceptively structured. Although they both look a touch big on the models compared to the catwalk girls. Especially the ruff dress, which seems to hang a bit on her.

The stylist did a great job of evoking the Flemish Old Masters in this gorgeous editorial. And the photography emphasizes the textures of the beautiful clothes. Great work from all involved.

And a question. The Giles skirt on the right: Is that human hair trim at the bottom? The same kind of effect we saw first from Chris March in his final PR collection? The staggeringly original collection that all the judges turned their noses up at because… “Omigod! He used HAIR!”? I’m guessing it’s not polyester, so, you know–PR Judges, eat it! I’m still a bitter kitten at how little respect I think the judges showed Chris.

Overall methinks the styling in the editorial did the clothes no favors. But the McQueen and Givenchy dresses are so stunning it didn’t even matter in those shots.

Thanks, TLo. This was really fun to look at. I had to do some research today on the Faroe Islands and this kind of dovetails with the stark, stony, northern look of that place. Also, now I am jonesing for a Faroese shawl with shaped shoulders. Sadly, I know it is destined to be an unfulfilled desire because I could no more knit a Faroese shawl than find the cure for cancer by 2 pm tomorrow.
