The Disney factory’s setting another indentured servant free and Glamour is positively breathless about it.

“Selena Gomez is having a very good year. Wizards of Waverly Place, the show she’s starred in since age 13, is in its final season, so at 19, she’s -officially graduating from the -Disney Channel and joining the grown-up Hollywood universe. First project? The girlfriend-getaway summer rom-com Monte Carlo, in which she starred alongside Katie Cassidy and Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester. Then there’s her -single “Who Says,” which zoomed to platinum status off her latest album, When the Sun Goes Down (Britney Spears even co-wrote one song). Plus, in case you’ve missed their extreme cuteness in the tabloids, she’s dating Justin Bieber. We’re lucky she had time to talk!”

On having a visible presence on Twitter and Facebook: “I love that I can stay connected with my fans and be able to tell them what’s going on—their opinions are so important to me. But at the same time, it’s very weird. I think the Internet can be a great thing but also really evil. Something can instantly hurt your feelings.”

On Justin Bieber fans posting threatening messages about her online: “Yeah, I’m human, so of course certain things sometimes hurt. I just laugh at it.”

It’s mostly a publicist’s wet dream, but the pictures are super-cute. Grown up, but not too much so. Like a girl spending the afternoon in her closet trying on outfits for friends. Sweet.

Although her lipstick looks like it was provided by Sherwin Williams.

I don’t usually like any of the Disney stars (and certainly not Bieber) but I’ve always kind of liked her. She looks pretty and fresh and she comes across as reasonably sensible. I hope she can keep her career going as an adult, too. I do feel bad for her. Bieber fans are insane.

  I didn’t know how old she was when I saw that video, but the fact she looks younger than my 13 year old brother makes it seem oddly inappropriate. The big hair, the men…I don’t know. Maybe I’m overly sensitive, especially since she is technically an adult, but I don’t like seeing a young (looking) girl dressed as a sex object.

    The corset outfit she wears in the pinata scene, and the main disco fabulous look did make me a little uncomfortable but honestly she is 19. The most provocative look in the video is miles more demure than what Britney and Miley were/are sporting at that age. Her motivation for the video treatment was a desire to do something “high fashion” and I must say I like it better than Cyrus’ take.

      No, you’re right. I am only 21, but I tend to feel really over protective when it comes to the portrayal of young girls, even legally aged ones. I just look at her and I’m reminded of my little brother’s classmates rather than girls at my college.

She doesn’t grate on my nerve (after all these years I only have one left) like other celebrities her age. These snaps are completely cute and now I’m envious that I didn’t have a spread done on me when I was her age. They could have even used the same clothes.

She’s done a great job of being adorable, likeable and funny. We have banned a lot of the Disney shows from our house for being harsh, screetchy, or just insulting. But her show stays because, against all expectations, she’s actually really funny. She gets it right most of the time on the red carpet, too. Thanks for the fun editorial.

She’s adorable, but I have hated her ever since I took some kids to Jingle Ball and discovered she has all the stage presence of dental floss. She needs the Bieb. Sorry – this spread just bores the heck out of me. Her expressions look blank and generic and the clothes are a yawn. But I’m old and cranky and would rather see more interesting actors with diverse experiences being covered than products from what you call the Disney factory. And the ‘all grown up and doing adulty things – a girlfriend romcom’ – is the silliest statement…. ugh.
