Paul Rudd for Nylon Magazine
Paul Rudd, the walking definition of “husband material,” is featured in the September issue of Nylon magazine, photographed by Keneth Cappello. We’re a little disappointed by the pics.
On comedy: “With any stresses or traumas, that would be how I would process things. I think that was probably the genesis for a career in this because it’s all about attention. I hear people talk about ‘the craft’ and I just think, ‘Oh, you’re so full of shit. Really, you just want people to tell you that you are cute and funny and that you affected them in some way.”
On having doors opened after the success of Clueless: ” I wanted to have this long-term career, not just in the immediate. I had to really know what I was doing any get experience. I tried to make it on my own terms as much as I could.”
On how he met Judd Apatow: “I was at a dinner, before Anchorman, I remember boring everyone on the subject of fake names…and I was saying one of the funniest fake names is Gern Blanston, from an old Steve Martin routine. Somebody at the table said “Oh my God! That explains Judd Apatow’s email address!” So I went home and emailed him congratuliating on the email address.”
We’re not entirely sure it’s humanly possible to say something negative about Paul Rudd. He’s like the Manchurian Actor; no one can bring themselves to do anything but praise the guy. Not that it’s hard to figure out why; he’s adorable, funny, and projects a down-to-earth image that’s hard to argue with.
But whether it fits his image or not, the standard guyditorial of jeans, t-shirts and sneakers is so boring. We wouldn’t necessarily want to see him done up all glamorous or anything (especially for a magazine like Nylon), but he can get away with so much more than the Every Guy look. He’s a popular, good-looking actor who’s loaded with personality and takes a great picture. Dressing him like a GAP manager is a waste.
