It’s late on Friday and we’ve thrown a lot of opinions at you today, so we’re just gonna let these gorgeous pics of Annie speak for themselves.

Although we will say this (because not expressing an opinion about something is like not breathing to us): we’re totally digging the relatively played down makeup as well as the avoidance of her usual “theater club president” grinning and mugging. Anne’s fabulous in a lot of editorials, but it’s refreshing to see one where she’s not grinning once.

Wow. I don’t normally buy magazines for specific editorial, but this- this I’m getting. She’s stunning, and there’s such a strong sense of mood- I want to know the story behind it, rather than just oohing and aahing at the clothes (which are absolutely gorgeous).

  Thanks for sharing the video clip. Very impressive, so much I had to watch it a second time.
  
  That said, I couldn’t appreciate her as a model in the pictures of this editorial without seeing her on the verge of cracking even a grin. She just seems too goofy so much, it’s almost built into her face. Just can’t take her that seriously, yet.

Alright, apologies, but doesn’t this look a but student-y to anyone else? The half-covered face, the lace masks? Don’t get me wrong – it looks like a really talented student from SVA or Parsons who’s on their way to shooting a cover for Italian Vogue but it’s not really subtle, is it?

i wonder if karl lagerfeld is so jaded he is purely aiming for editorial pics? cos, for more than a few seasons now–quite more than a few–his designs have looked pretty awful in person but fabulous on whosoever wears them in pictures.

while i understand the critique here of “student work,” this particular student does know how to emphasize what is best in clothing. makes the model, in this case AH, subservient to the design of the photographs–but the clothes are done impeccably.

What I like in a lot of these pictures is the fading of the veiling into the shadows of the statues, so it looks like Anne is melting into them.

The second on in the Nina Ricci dress is just a little disturbing, though–the dead dolly look doesn’t really sell the dress, if that’s the aim.

I agree that her lack of grinning her gives her some, well, range. But I have to say that her usual trifecta of gorgeous, glamorous, and funny is kind of a winning combo for me. It’s not so easy to pull off. Think Patsy Stone. Or Gaga, who I think always redeems herself every time she pulls on her considerable comedienne strengths. Or best of all, Judy Holliday, that wisecracking, and very smart (IQ of 172) comedienne who epitomized a kind of glamorous female strength that is still a kind of gold standard. Keep grinning, Annie. Funny is powerful!

  She was nominated for an Oscar and won a boatload of Film Critics Associations’ awards for Rachel Getting Married, which is not a comedy by any stretch of the imagination. Also: Brokeback Mountain. She’s done drama, and done it just fine. She seems to prefer doing comedies, which is her prerogative.

The clothes are absolutely fabulous, and Anne did an excellent job of modeling here. I especially like how she looks in the Nina Ricci and Gucci shots—like something is really happening/has happened to her. So much better than grinning at the camera. Well done by everyone involved.

Love the two shots in the Nina Ricci dress, without actually loving the dress. In fact, I dislike most of the dresses on display. Notable exception: the Bottega Veneta, which in some ways has a lot going on, yet I find all the little details continually draw the eye to something new and surprising. It’s just gorgeous.*

  That’s what I was thinking, though I didn’t even like the Bottega Veneta dress on the model (it seemed to make the breasts droop to my eye). Perhaps the b&w photography helps by turning the sheers into patterns instead of peekaboo? But Hathaway is wonderful here, evoking silent-movie emotionality without camp. I am also enjoying the setting.

I must say I really am getting more into her editorials and red-carpet style than I’ve ever been into her acting.
Hmmm… I’m starting to formulate a plan in which I can become famous simply so Mert & Marcus can shoot me. They seem to really be able to tranform these actresses (Anne and Kristen Stewart in the past week) and give them personalities I’m not sure they even possess… hehe

30-40 years ago Jane Fonda, Jessica Lange or Meryl Streep would never have done this “fashion work” to promote a film. Professional models were used to promote clothes in magazines and did a damn fine job. I do not like the idea that almost every cover of Vogue or Harper’s Baazar features a celebrity. Bring back the models. I miss the models.

This is a different AH than I’m used to seeing – and a beautiful one. Normally I don’t perceive her as all that attractive, at least not by movie star standards.

For me it’s a mixed bag as to “feel,” a few of these felt stage-y to me, but perhaps just because I don’t associate AH with dark glamor, despite the fact that she consistently wears gorgeous gowns well.

That overwrought second shot in the Nina Ricci really isn’t working for me. It looks like, “OH MY GOD, I can’t believe I left my clutch in the cab!” Other than that, lots of fun and I got a particular kick out of the Chanel with the granny pants. She WERQD those sleeves. Are pointy nails in, though? If so, count me out of that trend.
