Downton Abbey Ladies in Vogue UK
We’re far more likely to dig into our DVD collection during the summer months, when there’s very little worth watching on TV. Last week, we found ourselves immersed in the world of Downton Abbey once again and cried to the heavens that we have to wait a while for the recently completed season 2 to air on this side of the Atlantic (January, to be precise). So imagine our delight when we found out those bitchy Crawley sisters all got a chance to wear gorgeous early 21st Century gowns (instead of early 20th) for Vogue UK.
Unfortunately, the Dowager Countess does not appear in this editorial, although we have started using her title as a nickname for our oldest, moodiest cat. “Ohhhh, apparently the Dowager Countess didn’t want salmon feast today.”
Anyway the dresses are gorgeous, the ladies are lovely, and we’re salivating for some good old-fashioned class-conscious British melodrama.

To celebrate the return of Downton Abbey, Vogue UK featured actresses Michelle Dockery, Jessica Brown-Findlay and Laura Carmichael in the August 2011 issue, photographed by Jason Bell and styled by Fiona Golfar.

“My Character does get to behave so badly, doesn’t she?”
“Lady Edith is the daughter that everyone expects will have to take care of her mother and father, which makes her more determined than the other two to hook a husband.”

“I’m so excited, I can’t breathe! I think this dress is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever worn.”

“Our costumes for the show are lovely, but nothing on this!”
“…we love it when we have a day of bitching on the set.”
