I can think of a lot more than that. We usually don’t hear about actors turning down scripts because the focus is on who ended up with the job. Most likely Ryan signed on to make the movie before he saw a script.

I saw “Green Lantern” this weekend. It’s like they took pages from various summer blockbuster scripts and combined them at random to form one big cliche. The only thing that kept it from totally sucking was Ryan’s performance. He’s got that cute routine down pat.

What’s with the wispy neck scarves in SUMMER?!?! It that point it is just an affected bit of foolishness. If (and it’s a big if) he gets chilled on the plane, this little scrap of yarn isn’t going to cut it. Everything else, looks great.

Totally agree. The summer neck scarf needs to stop. It bug the hell out of me, too. At first I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt because planes can be freezing but that over-sized hankie isn’t going to do jack in keeping you warm.

This one I don’t actually mind because it’s so small, it’s almost like a necklace. The ones I hate are the decorative scarves that are draped loosely around the neck, especially if they fall into that triangle shape hanging down in front. If they’re fringed, it’s even worse.

TLo, have you guys actually gone to see Green Lantern? After reading the abysmal reviews, I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a perfectly enjoyable movie, and nothing about it made me cringe. I think that its overall quality (of writing, plot, action) is comparable to the first Spider Man movie. It doesn’t transcend the super hero genre, and it’s not as good as X-Men: First Class, but it is not nearly the shoddy mess the critics have made it out to be. If you’re a GL fan, Tom, I encourage you to go see the movie and judge for yourself.

I totally agree. My husband is a DC Comics geek like no other, and I’m pretty familiar with the GL stories, etc. We were pleasantly surprised and entertained. What he’s noticed is that other comic geeks are enjoying it, so I think there’s something to that. All of that is to say, I agree that Tom, you should give it a shot!

And I have to say that Ryan Reynolds does absolutely nothing for me, so I had very low expectations going in. He was much better than I thought he would be! To me, he still resembles irritating little brother Billy on “Fifteen” (which I thought was SO RAD in the mid-90s – oy) and he hasn’t grown out of the doofy look, abs notwithstanding.

I saw it this weekend too. The effects were shaky in spots, as was the writing, but overall it was a nice time-killer (and I agree, not as good as the pleasantly surprising X-men movie).

Tom, It’s okay! I went and saw Green Lantern yesterday and DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE CRITICS!!! If you love the green lantern you will love this movie. Ryan does a really good job and the movie is magical and enjoyable. I don’t know what people are saying that it’s difficult to follow. It makes perfect sense. I think people are just hating on DC because it’s the cool thing to do now. If you went and saw Thor or Xmen then I would say definitely go see this one because in my opinion Green Lantern was better than both.

I feel like DC movies aren’t as good for the same reason X-Men has been so spotty (when it’s good — I’m looking at you, Bryan Singer — it’s outstanding, but when it’s bad it’s abysmal). They aren’t made by the comic studio! Marvel hasn’t always had that advantage either. Until DC can make enough money to make a studio worthwhile, they aren’t going to get the same consistently good results Marvel does now.

Oh, that hat. I have no clue why but for some reason I think guys in hats look much better than guys without hats. One of my many weird preferences. If he hadn’t worn that hat I would’ve been bored, but HAT. Sue me, I’m weird.

I get really annoyed when people complain about “unnecessary” items like scarves and such!!!
You know those earrings your wore to work?? Unnecessary.
That necklace you wore out the other night? Unnecessary.
