Cover Girl: Zoe Saldana for Prestige in Elie Saab
Whenever we think of Zoe Saldana, our gay fashion blogger stream-of-consciousness dialogue goes something like this: “Fierce! Couture! WERQ! Sexy! Pointy-toed shoes and skinny jeans! Big damn skirts! Taking her bra off in one fluid motion in that CK ad! Attitude, attitude, attitude! Did we mention fierce?”
So it was with some surprise that we viewed the following covershot for Prestige:

Zoe Saldana featured in the May 2011 issue of Prestige magazine’s Hong Kong edition in an Elie Saab couture gown, photographed by John Russo.

She’s so soft and romantic and feminine! Not that she was ever not feminine; just that we rarely ever see her in such a conventionally feminine, almost old-fashioned (in a good way) kind of look. “Fierce” is not the word that comes to mind here, but “gorgeous” will do nicely. Also, “lovely,” which is a word we should use more often, or even that old standby, “pretty,” which has been watered down as a word (much like “nice”), but really does apply here. We seem to have gotten sidetracked by wordnerd discussion, but the point remains: Pretty, soft, and romantic; three words we don’t normally use to describe Zoe, but which make a nice change from the words we normally use to describe her, “Fierce, WERQ, and Diva.”
