Cover Boy: Chris Evans for GQ Magazine

Captain America, otherwise known as Chris Evans, is featured in the July 2011 issue of GQ magazine wearing Gucci and being subjected to a cringe-worthy “Dear Diary, I TOTALLY met Chris Evans today!!!!!” style of “interview.”

On his initial reluctance to take on the role of Captain America: “I said no a bunch, and every time I said no, I woke up the next morning so happy and content. I kept saying no; they kept coming back. And eventually I was like, ‘You know what? This is your biggest fear—this is exactly what you have to do. The problem is, if the movie’s bad, that’s one set of problems. If the movie’s great, here come the sequels, here come the fuckin’…”

Go and read the whole interview. It is not to be missed. Not so much because of Chris, but because… well. See for yourself. Here’s how it opens:

“chris evans pecs. how do they FEEL? like smooth stone from the souvenir shop?’

…is the instant message that pops up on my computer one Monday morning in April. My friend Kyle follows it up with a link to the gossip pages of the New York Daily News: I am being described as the “mystery maiden” Evans introduced to his mother at a premiere party; we held hands, the paper is reporting, ‘in a flirty manner,’ and he even placed ‘one of them on his chest.’ Oh.”

We tried to look at it from an irreverent, tongue-in-cheek perspective, but it doesn’t work. We’ve read Tiger Beat interviews that were more professional-sounding than this one.

Oh, don’t look at us like that. You read Tiger Beat once. You know you did.

Anyway, Chris is super-dreamy and we’re going to rip this cover off the magazine and totally hang it in our lockers.

I think the interview is hilarious, especially in the context of the interviewer’s (Edith Zimmerman) other writing. She doesn’t take him, herself, or the interview seriously.

I think it’s nice that they photoshopped a new nose for Mr. Evans. Though, to be honest, I didn’t see anything wrong with his old one. But what do I know? His nose generally isn’t what I look at when I’m looking at Mr. Evans.

That is a nice jacket, which is part of an even nicer suit. Wish he’d worn that.

There’s something wrong for me about his face, but (if it’s not photo shop) the proportions of his torso & hips are very, VERY, right. I swear Mother Nature programs certain genetic combinations into us & when we see them they are the secret code.

Hadn’t thought of Tiger Beat in years. It is inextricably bound up in my mind with images of David Cassidy & (a few years later, my cousins’ generation) Leif Garrett looking very, very blow-dried.

I quite enjoyed he interview. Sure it was pretty unproffessional, but at least i wasn’t the same old publicist speak. Also i Love the jacket on the cover. makes me wish I was a guy so it would look good on me. though whatever they did to his nose/face is rather horrifying,

He is smokin hot, but that cover is horribly styled. A note to all: if any man who approaches you with a deep cut T-shirt, an unbuttoned DOUBLE BREASTED blazer (of all things) and jeans, you should run in the opposite direction immediately!

Just finished reading the whole piece and… wow…. just wow… They probably could have just let Chris Evans’ mom write the piece.

I mean, I’m a total Marvel fan girl, and Evans gets double credit for being both Captain America and Johnny Storm, but even I’m not that bad.

I TOTALLY read Tiger Beat and sighed as I read interviews with Rob Lowe and C. Thomas Howell.
Anyway, Chris Evans is equally dreamy, but I’m not feeling the double-breasted jacket with the jeans. Double-breasted jackets always make me think of David Letterman, for some reason. Totally NOT dreamy.

I’m going to give the journo the benefit of the doubt – I thought the piece was really funny and she packed in a lot of actual information in amongst the girly fluffiness. There were several points where I laughed out loud.

I usually find him pretty darned handsome, but there’s something just ODD about this picture. Around the eyes–doesn’t even look like him. He looks better than they’ve made him look here…I hope he got to give some good superhero face inside!
