i wasn’t sure what you were going to say. When I slowly scrolled down the 2nd pic – the top initially looks a little like a men’s pajama top and a little like the top of a sweater skirt set I bought from Spiegel years ago.

It’s not that I don’t like the look, but I am a little confused by it.

I saw the jammy top resemblance, but that’s one of the things I liked about the outfit. It gives a fairly classic, conservative outfit a hint of a softer, more tactile vibe. To my eye, it ups the interest of the ensemble, without looking ‘wrong.’

The top is a little low. Is it a sweater with no layer under it? If he were female, I’d say he needs a necklace, since he’s a guy, I’ll say he needs a shirt. Other than that, he looks great. Love the crisp look and THOSE SHOES!!!

Tiny quibble (and not even sure if this is a quibble) – that shirt reminds me of the top from a set of men’s pajamas. Specifically, the ones my (dear departed :{ ) grandfather used to wear…

Since the shirt is a cardigan style, maybe just a simple neutral shirt? Not sure what exactly would work, but it needs just a little something at the neckline.

Otherwise? I want to eat him with a spoon, even though he’s wearing blue & white saddle shoes (wait, are those saddle shoes or oxfords?). He is one of few reasons I’m sad that I moved away from Cincinnati. The new film he is in with George Clooney was shooting just a few blocks away from my old office building and many of my fellow cube dwellers got to watch filming.

Yes, the shirt looks a bit like the top to tailored pajamas and sort of like an airline stewardess jacket from the early 60s, but, wow, he looks crisp and cool and put together and effortless and handsome and comfortable and pretty near perfect anyway. (One quibble: I wish he’d shave his neck.)

I think a lot of the actors are respnding to Cannes in a retro way. Gosling here is doing it perfectly (excellent haircut, too). That sweater is perfect Cannes day wear — love the little pocket on the sleeve. I think this retro glamour/cruise wear look is why we are seeing so many white gowns on the women.

I’m not loving it, though I give him lots of points for attempting this look, and mostly succeeding. My problem is with the PJ top. If the trim were in a different color, it would be just a touch less pajama-like. It’s also a lot of waxed chest he’s sporting, but that’s just my preference.
