Shelley O met up with Betty, Cammie, and Cathy, and the gals all had a laugh together. Let’s decide whether we approve of their clothes, shall we?

It’s a very pretty dress. A bit too self-consciously retro, though. It could have come right out of the Mad Men wardrobe. We think the skirt’s too full, but that’s what our gal likes. Love the shoes.

Betty looks cute in her print. We wonder how many dinner rolls she stuffed into her ever-present purse.

We always feel a little bad for Cammie at these things because she quite obviously isn’t built for the pomp and pageantry. She always looks like she’d rather be riding a horse. Still, the suit looks good on her. We like the detailing on the jacket. The hat was completely too much, though. And the matching gloves and purse is uber-twee.

The Duchess of Cambridge is wearing a bandage dress by Reiss.

Cathy”s dress looks pretty and modern next to Shelley’s Peggy Olson drag. We don’t think Shelley’s bolero jacket adds anything to the look. It instantly bulks her up.

Okay, we make it a point not to get into body snarking here, but we’re sorry; that’s a young lady in need of an intervention. She is entirely too thin and for the first time in her public life, she doesn’t look healthy. When a woman is standing with her feet together and you could pass a copy of War and Peace between her legs without touching them, that’s a problem.

Well, I guess those rumors about Kate being pregnant already are untrue. I do wish she looked healthier. I worry about women with BMIs around 14.

I’m not a fan of bolero jackets in general, but the way this one sticks out all over does make her look heavier on top. I don’t think it’s protocol to be sleeveless in the Queen’s company, but there are other alternatives. Agree about the shoes — cute!!

Billy looks good with a post-honeymoon tan – but I hate his suit. His dad wears the same retro/ugly style.

And I have to agree, Cathy’s elbow is serving some serious Skeletor. She could probably carry another 5-10 lbs and still be a knockout.

Like the dress, not amazing but cute. Hate the bolero. It’s the sort of piece a fashion student makes at the last minute to bulk up a collection or a dressmaker sews up out of scraps when she finds out the bridesmaids have to have shoulders covered at the wedding. But I feel about boleros the same way you feel about Marchesa so none will ever please me.

Kate looks great as always, maybe too slim but I hate to comment on weight either way.

I agree with you on just about everything. Style aside – it’s interesting how the last pictures show how Obama and William are copying one another and being strong whereas their spouses are seemingly being very casual and relate to one another. Reminds me of things we talked about in my Gender and Communication classes.

Shelly’s pink jacket is just not doing it for me. I love the dress, hate the shoes…they look too small in the width. Camillia’s shoes are the wrong color, but the royals are always matchy matchy with color, so the rest of the outfit is working.

It’s hard to compare the 4 of them because they are so far appart in age and station in life.
The Queen looks as she always does. Appropriate.
Cams hat is cray-cray. Othewise she looks fine.
Catherine looks very modern and elegant. But I fear if Michelle had worn that dress she would have been taken to task for being too
casual.
I like Michelle in full skirts. And I think the bolero has the opposite effect of bulking up, the sleeve is very narrow and the cut in the back emphasizes the small of her back, which is very pretty.
The fabric looks a bit “late day”, I don’t know what time of day it was or what the event was either. Over all I like the look.

Shelly’s dress is a perfect choice to visit the Queen. I have to finally agree that Cathy may need to start visiting her local chippy on a regular basis (though I still think she looks fabulous). But poor Wills: With the way he us standing and holding himself, he looks like the Windsor genes have finally taken over.

I think it’s adorable that Ms. Obama chose a dress in the style of Queen E.’s heyday. Not that I think Princess and too-soon Queen E. ever got a heyday as say, Ms. Pippa Middleton would understand the term.

And I like Ms. O’s dress, though I do wish her little bolero were not pink. It dumbs down the ensemble to junior’s dept.

That is a stunningly flattering suit on Camilla. To my eyes the hat is too much, but I’m a Yank, what do I know from hats? I also really like what I can glimpse of her necklace. (And yes, I’m pretty sure she WOULD much rather be on a horse.)

Chuckled at the first couple of group shots indoors , apparently unless one is gesturing, protocol dictates hands clasped to protect the genitals when heads of state meet.

Love Shelly’s shoes and agree the skirt is a bit too full. Flat out hate the bolero jacket, but I’m not a fan of bolero jackets in general. Kate’s dress feels a bit too casual to me. Perhaps it’s the color, but it looks like a khaki dress I would wear to run errands in. I agree she looks scary thin. I’m still hoping she’ll allow herself to put back on a few pounds now that the wedding is over.

I think the bolero would look great with a sleeker dress underneath, but it’s a little too Mamie Eisenhower as-is. As I was looking at these photos I was hoping you’d do some Michelle-caps – “Girl, you are starting to look like your late mother-in-law. Let me give you my recipe for…” or words to that effect.

Agreed on the Duchess. I loved her wedding dress, and she did look radiantly happy, but in close up her face looked thin and sunken. Not at all healthy. That just seems to be getting worse.

I like the Tfank (?) on the model , but it looks decidely cheaper on Shelly O. ANd the stiff full skirt is not flattering – I guess that is to match how unflattering that the shrug is.

Of course, she also took her coffee cup (wiped clean with a napkin) AND the salt and pepper shakers. We could never convince her that they were not hers for the taking. Lord, I miss her!

I love the pic where it looks like Obama just told William a dirty joke. Michelle’s dress is a little bridesmaid for me, and I’m not digging the bolero. The Queen looks like she is wearing Koret. I agree about Kate, but I do like her dress. She has the right coloring for that kind of neutral, unlike Camilla.

      Diana grew up the daughter of an earl and spent time with the royal family her whole life. By the time she was Kate’s age she’d been married to Chuckles for 10 years.

This is one of the few times I have not liked Mrs. Obama’s outfit. I don’t think it flatters her body type and I don’t like the little jacket. Hell, I don’t even like the shoes. She is still my fashion idol, though, and I am expecting something fabulous next time. You go, Shelley.

Lord, Until the wedding I didn’t realize how TINY the queen is! I too love the fabric of the FLOTUS dress, so glad she did something different with the sash/belt, the jacket was alright until I saw it in profile and saw it was layered. The skirt on the dress didn’t look too full when she was walking, only when she was standing.
Camilla, yes, she does always look out of place, doesn’t she? And the new duchess–please, lets not go there with her weight, please, please! She has had busy month, lets just give her a little rest.

I think Shelly looks really good and I think the look is retro but modern. I like. I am a skinny girl so as a rule never get in on the “give that girl a sandwich train” but Katie, you really do! Still gorgeous, though. Camillas hat – ugh.

Can we talk about how well Billy’s suit fits? It’s bespoke, I’m sure so of course it’s going to fit him perfectly, but the high-stance jacket and narrow trousers make Barry look schlubby in comparison. Considering the emotional, social, environmental transition Kate’s in right now, I’m not too worried. If I went through a high profile wedding and lived with and was now considered a royal, I’d probably drop 10 pounds without even trying. Her dress: The skirt is a little too full, but overall I like the dress for her. I wish she had worn it without that bolero to show off her killer arms.

The Duchess is way to thin…stop it now. The Prince is also thinned down, maybe its the British water. All the women dressed as per ususual, clean and crisp,it Shelly had to cover her shoulders , maybe a different dress would be the way to go. Considering how fashion-challenged Camilla can be, I think she looks good here. I even kind of love the hat.

I really like the dress our awesome First Lady is wearing, but I agree that it’s too full. That’s a great length though, and notice she had the sense to dump the bow at the waist. The shoes are killer. The less said about the bolero, the better.

I suspect the Queen has both a gun and a knife in that purse. Also, change for the meter.

Yes, Shelley has made better choices, but I still think she looks great! Kate had best enjoy that skinny body while she has it. I’m sure she will be pregnant by the end of the year if not sooner. I think Kate looks fabulous in that dress! I think that she will probably put on a few of the pounds back. I think that she only lost the weight because of wedding stress which is perfectly normal. Afterwards, newlyweds usually bounce right back to health.

But the pink bolero does look like an afterthought — “Oh! I guess I shouldn’t go sleeveless to Buckingham Palace, even if I do have great arms. Let me just grab the first pastel thing I see.”

She seems to have this need to show off her arms, even when it’s totally inappropriate, i.e., wearing a sleeveless dress to Obama’s first speech to Congress, in January, for crying out loud. And she really needs to do something about those eyebrows.

She’s been looking well lately and cheerier than before. It’s either relief at the wedding finally happening or she’s getting a bit wandered. Interview on our TV tonight with Phil to mark his 90th! Might be entertaining if he’s as politically incorrect as he normally is.

Anyway, the clothes. Queen fresh and springlike, and no hat so I don’t know what Camilla was thinking as she looks like she has her spare wedding outfit on! Although her and Michelle seem deep in conversation. Kate – modern and businesslike. She maybe could’ve been a bit brighter. Michelle, sorry but she looks like she’s going to a kids birthday party. Too full and short, and too high on her waist. I know she’s tall and a lot of her dresses hit too high on her waist, but it’s accentuated by those full skirts she seems to like. She looks far better in a straight dress or something that visually drops her waist and balances her proportions. And the bolero…?!

Terrific images! Love how Obama is cracking Will’s shit up. What on earth could he have said to him? I do so love this dress on Shelley, but the length and bolero are problematic to the entire look. Kate looks fantastic. Hate the weight talk. For those paying attention, she’s heavier than she was at the wedding and her legs have never touched, even with 20 more pounds. I always love Michelle’s color choices and her risk-taking no matter what she wears. It doesn’t always flatter her, but she still always looks great. Personality means something.

I think Kate’s health decline may be because of the world she is thrown in. Then again, she had nine years to prepare, but it is most definitely a stressful environment to get into. I hope that she becomes more comfortable, which will hopefully let her gain more weight. Love her dress here, though. Shelly’s looks bad. I think Kate’s health decline may be because of the world she is thrown in. Then again, she had nine years to prepare, but it is most definitely a stressful environment to get into. I hope that she becomes more comfortable, which will hopefully let her gain more weight. Love her dress here, though. Shelly’s looks bad. I’m giving her a pass. Can you even FATHOM how much stress she is under with the wedding, the honeymoon, and now this meeting? She’ll have to get used to it, of course.. but I’m sure eating is down on her list, even if she can stomach it. I think they all look great!

From a distance Shelly O’s dress is pretty (w/o the bolero, of course), but up close? Yikes! How heavy is that material? And I HATE the shoes.

WOW, is Kate way too thin! Hopefully when things calm down in their lives, she can put a little more meat on her bones. Still a gorgeous girl, but just to skinny.

I think Kate’s dress is AMAZING. Gorgeous, classic, flattering-perfection. Ms. Obama’s dress looks entirely twee in comparison. I LOVE a retro silhouette, but…not on her…and not here. A tailored sheath with a lovely jacket or great accessories would have been much better.

Shelley needs to be wearing something like what she wore to the State of the Union. I want my first lady chic. I want her to lord over the Duchess and show her what chic really looks like.

Both Kate and Michelle look fantastic. I can nitpick them both a bit, but they both have a great approach to dressing and I enjoy watching them – plus neither really asked for the spotlight, they just met a good guy they fell in love with – so I’m not going to.
