Man on the Street: James Van Der Beek in New York

Living internet meme and former Dawson James Van Der Beek headed out to the streets of New York to make his way to a screening of “The Hangover Part 2.” Let’s see how he did.

LOVE the glasses. They really frame his face well. He looks cute. Hair looks great, outfit is casual but put together; everything’s cooking. Then he had to go and put that silly little thing around his neck. It’s not exactly cold in New York right now so it comes off more than a little affected. Actually, we can’t think of a situation or weather condition where it wouldn’t look a little affected. Lose it, James. It’s almost ruining the look. You’re welcome.

Yes, we see your very impressive Kabbalah string. Now, either push the sleeve down or pull the other one up. Shit or get off the pot, Dawson.

I agree on the scarf, but he looks like he’s trying too hard to be “messy” and that isn’t working for me. If he’d straighten out the cardigan he’d look great.

For a few years now I have been seeing these cotton scarves bunched up around the youngsters/hipsters neck no matter the temperature. The dog days of August and they will be wearing scarves. It has become a bit of pet peeve of mine along with wearing of flip flops in January.

Other than the things mentioned by you and the commentariat, I think he looks very handsome and casually put-together.

On an entirely different note: I’m having trouble with V-neck t-shirts. I think it’s from growing up and seeing them on my pudgy, middle-aged father. They just didn’t look “cool.”

Now that I’m pudgy and middle aged, I’m trying to wrap my head around the double V made by the shirt and cardigan. Looks good on him, though.

  I understand your point, have the same issues myself as a middle aged man. But even more disturbing to me is the trend of the super low v-neck shirts. If I want to see that much of your chest I’ll ask you to take your shirt off.

  I’m a fan of the double v-neck, especially if one of the layers is a thin t-shirt. A thin v-neck t-shirt looks more finished under a sweater.
  
  Tomstl, the really low cut v-neck is on my mind because I just watched season 5 of Project Runway. Jerrell sure likes his plunging necklines. He can get away with it, but for the most part… no.

    I find the super-low v-neck t-shirt appropriate to dancers, former dancers, and the occasional high-style exception. If you otherwise dress as if you are now or have been in a fraternity it just weirds me out.

The face/glasses/hair look great. The scarf is bad. Something about the waistline looks wonky. The cardigan pulling up with the bunchy t-shirt and a weird crotch on the jeans, I dunno, something just looked weird to me.

Yeahhh…that ‘scarf’ just looks like a limp noodle to me. And I, for one, don’t go around stringing limp noodles around my neck. Clearly, I can’t say the same for everyone else.

Loose the scarf, it’s too skinny anyway, fix your sleeve and the bottom of the sweater and he’s fine.

He’s rocking the go-to look at an assisted-living/retirement home. (I know. My parents live in one.) Crooked cardigan with pants slightly over-sized for comfort and rumpled from sitting most of the day. Except an old guy would have more sense than to wear a sorry little rag of a scarf and would wear a tucked-in collared shirt instead of an untucked undershirt.

I think I’ve watched exactly one episode of Dawson’s Creek, but The Beek has always fascinated me. I agree with Brian upthread, who said Van Der Beek gets better with age. Maybe he’s growing into his head. I don’t know, but I think he’s so much cuter than he used to be.

I like this look. It suits him. Love the glasses, and I don’t mind the scarf. I’ve decided he’s wearing it because movie theaters are always so frigging cold.

I had always wondered why he was a Someone. So: I think he’s hot as hell, and I have no complaints here. I spend a lot of time with sleeves pushed up and slipping down and probably uneven, so I give that a pass. The only dislike is the dumb red string. This guy is dressed just right for my tastes, and he looks beautiful. sigh.

Ok I’ll attempt to defend the scarf… look at the crowd behind him.. hoodies, zipped up sweatshirt and a long sleeve sweater of some sort on backpack guy… maybe it was some far reaching Planet Hoth corner of NYC that is perpetually cold.

Love the glasses as well.. he’s still too young for me though.
