Tits McHonkerboobs displayed her secondary sexual characteristics to an eager audience of millions of Vanity Fair readers. Because muppets weren’t enough for her.

We know it’s internet-fashionable to internet-hate her, but she never bothered us. She always seemed like fun. At the very least, she doesn’t seem insufferable and you can’t say that about 90% of celebrities and about 99% of pop stars. Let’s look at pictures.

She’s no model. She’s a little too stiff and self-conscious on-camera (which is actually kind of endearing). The reason this editorial works for us is because she’s got the looks for these gorgeous clothes and she photographs really well. She looks fabulous in all the Dior but we’re not as enthralled with the Gaultier on her.

Yep, agreeing with every single thing you said. I saw her on Graham Norton about a year ago, and she seemed like a hoot, completely self-aware and down-to-earth. But I still hate the cover. The cups of a bustier should cover one’s breasts, not just the nipples.

What bothers me about her is that she’s not an artist. Shes just a decent (not great) singer and a decent (not great) beauty trying to suck up as much of the Gaga-esque trend and ride the fame train as far as it will take her. And the songs they write for her are insipid.

  Umm…pretty sure Ms. Perry was doing this wackadoo stuff before Lady Gaga. Maybe not AS wackadoo, but still kinda nuts. Hell, she even beat her to the bicurious anthem! I’m far from a fan, but I can certainly admit that she’s a gorgeous gal who’s team knows how to market her. The songs might be insipid, but that’s just what pop music is.

    Excuse me, “I Kissed A Girl” is not MY “bicurious anthem.” It’s a coldly calculating play into hetersexual porn fantasies…”I kissed a girl and I liked it/I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it!” TEE HEE. No. She’s said herself she’s not bisexual, and has been pretty rude and dismissive to reporters asking her about her lesbian fans. She doesn’t care.
    
    Just like “Firework” is not a “gay anthem” just because she had some boys kissing in the video. That does not erase the homophobic and bullying lyrics she’s never apologized for or EVEN ACKNOWLEGED AS BAD like “UR so gay and you don’t even kiss boys…you should hang yourself with your H&M scarf.” She’s happy to take the cash of her queer fans and pay lip service to how ostrasized we are but she won’t take responsiblity for the role she’s had and continues to play in our ostrasization.
    
    So that’s why I have a hard time thinking of her as “fun and harmless.” Although she does look quite beautiful here.

      And Gaga never apologized for calling Asians and Latinos “Orientals” and “Cholas”. What’s your point? And for all of Gaga’s “bisexuality” every major single of hers is a “girl-guy” song. I laughed when her song “The Edge of Glory” opened with “I need a man who thinks it’s right when it’s wrong”. You sure do, honey. Another song and another heteronormative self-reference. She’s playing you with the bisexual crap, just like any other opportunist trying to use the bisexual community as their easy way in to fame and counter-culture.
      
      If you’re a straight allie, then just own up to it. Damn.
      
      And quite frankly, what she “does” with her fame is fine, but it doesn’t erase how contrived and amateurish her lyric writing “talent” is. Any teenage gay boy could have written “Born This Way”…and probably wouldn’t have put up a charade calling it “a song directly sent from God/Alexander MacQueen”. And Judas? Those lyrics are hilariously bad. Judas denying her three times? “Use ear condom next time?” LMAO.

I like the Gautier on her. The editorial is not bad, the settings are gorgeous and she’s not bad to look at either. As for the interview, other than the stupid artichoke comment, she sounds fairly human and decent.

  Yes, it’s amazing that even though the red Dior dress is so complex, there is no angle from which I do not love it. Usually the very involved designs are best from the front – they’re designed for runway photos – but of course this collection was shown in that amazing wandering-through-the-atelier style and really seemed to have been designed for three dimensions.

I think she knows where she’s at and what she’s producing and I like that I can take that from her music and that’s all. I rather like the Gaultier on her, and I especially like that she wears the white lace straps pushed down across her upper arms. They look much better there than they do as the model wears them, up around her neck. That hat in the gray & pink Dior photo looks like something that easily could have been worn at the recent royal wedding!

I hope she’s wearing something other than her cover look while she’s touring in Indonesia. It’s supposed to be a very prudish place, even for imported pop divas.

I have to ask who would look wonderful in the Gaultier? I just can’t imagine it, though my imagination may be limited.

I also think she looks lovely in all the Diors, but I give a lot of credit to “the team.” I love the amber/gold lighting in the interior shots and her hair and makeup colors stand up to it.

I’ve really enjoyed her ridiculous, colorful outfits and appearances from the photos I’ve seen. I think she models these clothes quite well and it’s really wonderful to be able to actually SEE the clothes — so often not the case with these celeb spreads. Well played! She’s not tall enough for the Gaultier gown. Those leggings (or whatever) are not supposed to be that long. She’s not tall enough for the first Dior gown, either, but it looks OK in the photo because she’s hanging off of a carousel horse, so it doesn’t matter that the skirt is longer than her legs. That “fucking Indonesia” comment is annoying and offensive, though. It’s like she’s saying, “Look how exotic I am! Look how worldly and artistic I am, traveling to Asia!”

I don’t like the red on her. But I really don’t like this editorial, in terms of the way they dressed her. Those clothes are too straight-off-the-runway. I mean, they kept the weird mask in the first look, the gloves and a different, but identically placed, headpiece in the second look, and the shoes in the Gaultier and maybe the red Dior as well. It’s just really a flat way to present these clothes.

Ack. I’m one of those with an irrational, inexplicable negative reaction to Perry. Maybe because I have to listen to my 12 yo daughter explaining the “Firework” video to me, scene by scene, and telling me how deep it is. And all I can think is, “A lifetime of Elvis Costello and Clash played in your house, and you think this is deep??!!”

Anyway, I don’t need to like Katy Perry. She loves herself enough for all of us.

So, VF shows her doing what every rich naive American used to do: taking an old-fashioned Grand Tour of Paris. It’s like she’s a paper doll starting off in her corset and then they dress her up in haute couture from French designers and plop her down in the most cliched tourist-in-Paris scenes possible. It reads to me like a very pretty extended joke on her daffy “Indonesia” comment.

And I find her really lovely, even mores if she didnt dress in all the absurd get ups. But mostly I’m simply fascinated with her figure and think her breasts are forces of nature. As for California Girls (or Gurllls or whatever) the video? I thought that was all tongue and cheek, hilarious! What a way to poke fun.

As for the editorial. I hate it. Why? Those are the clothes I have been obsessed with since TLo put them up on their website. I love love love them. I hate that she gets to wear them, and looks good. Sigh.

She’s grown on me. I couldn’t stand her during the “I kissed a girl” era because mock lesbianism/bisexualism is stupid. I think she’s mellowed out without losing that fun aspect of her job, which is important. And she’s always been a looker. I think her body is pretty much perfection. One should always be proud of fabulous boobs.

I love the Gaultier dress. LOVE. It doesn’t look as great on her as it does on the runway model, but it is so smart and rich, I don’t even care.
