Cover Girl: January Jones for Allure Magazine

January Jones has that new X-Men movie coming out and since she gives good face, you can expect to see quite a bit of her staring back at you from the magazine rack. Here she is gracing the cover of Allure, and because it’s Allure, she’s made up impeccably.

Her eyes have a tendency to recede if they’re not made up well. We don’t think they’ve ever looked so big before. Love the hairstyle too.

On Mad Men costumes: “The most challenging part of the wardrobe is actually the period shoes,” she says. But overall, Jones appreciates the restrictive fashions of the era. “The long-line bra with the pointy tips and the girdle, and then the stockings on the garter belt—I really like the shape it gives me. It’s kind of sad when you take the girdle off at the end of the day.”

On the comparison to Grace Kelly: “It’s hard to think I have to live up to that, because I’m not her, unless Grace Kelly drank beer,” she quips.

On dieting: “I have never dieted,” says the actress. “I just listen to whatever my body craves. I don’t deny myself anything. I don’t crave sweets or unhealthy things very often. But when I do, like if I’m in a bad mood and I’m in traffic, I’ll stop at McDonald’s and get a strawberry shake and fries and not feel guilty at all, because I deserve it.”

We usually can’t stand her in interviews but she comes of likable here. Except for the “I can eat whatever I want” line, which is such a cliche. Honestly, that whole Grace Kelly thing is way overplayed. She doesn’t really look anything like her. Made up a certain way in period clothes and hair, she might remind you of her, but there’s no real facial resemblance.

Damn, we want her life.

Most of these are behind-the-scenes shots, but she sure does embody that L.A. movie star look to a tee, doesn’t she?

It is overplayed, and usually people don’t look like the person most people say they look like.

In the third one down, where she’s sitting on the sofa, she looks more like Claire Danes than Grace Kelly. (Not that I see the Grace Kelly resemblance at all.)

The only person I have heard refer to her resemblance to Grace Kelly is HER. I don’t see it except in the most obvious, farreaching way. Both blonde, both similiar haircuts from time to time, both actresses. That’s about it.

The first picture by the pool – I thought, wow they put an ALLURE sign up like a Hollywood sign…. then I felt silly since it is watermarked. )

I love these shots of her.

Doesn’t show a life I’d want though, however much fun it *sounds* like to be well paid for wearing expensive clothing in fancy settings, simply as an adjunct to one’s successful acting gig. Though I must admit, the money would probably reconcile me to it pretty quickly.

She probably does eat whatever she wants (in terms of types of food). However, she probably eats a dime sized bite out of “whatever she wants” and then gives the rest to the dog.

I’d never think to compare her to Grace. She is certainly Hollywood glam though.

She looks beautiful in these pics, and her legs look Ah’mazing! Like guest00_26 said though, I’d also not recognize her without a label. She looks different every time I see her, plus, I don’t watch MM, so she’s not someone I see except for here.

Wow, I really disagree about that cover shot. I think she looks quite blank and lifeless here. I can’t deny she’s a pretty woman, but I think she looks worst in beauty shots where she’s gazing into the camera. She just doesn’t have it behind the eyes. Not my taste.

I love her hair this length and the style in the editorial. It’s a bit Betty Draper, yet not. I also like when JJ goes completely anti-Betty as she did a couple months ago with the April shoot for W (http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/2011/04/january-jones-for-w-magazine-2.html). Admittedly JJ doesn’t give good interview and often comes across in text and on camera as vacant, but I respect her acting on Mad Men, and always enjoy seeing her being just plain old beautiful.

She is so gorgeous on Mad Men, yet when I see her made up for these editorials I think they take away what is distinctive about her, I don’t know how.

What’s so cliche about “I eat whatever I want”? I would think the cliche is the humble actress who says I work so hard with my trainer and take really good care of myself it’s not easy blah blah blah. If it’s the honest truth, why cover it up?
