Project Runway: Congratulations!
So why was this episode so boring?
She wasn’t exactly a firecracker, was she? Is that why the judges were throwing more shade than a street corner full of drag queens at 3 am? Seriously, what was up their asses? Maybe they were just underwhelmed by the offerings. We have to admit, we kind of agree with them on that.
Congrats to Mondo! We’re happy the little imp finally won something. You could tell the judges were happy to give it to him and respond well to his whole schtick.
We both love and don’t love this look. It’s complicated. Taken on its own, it’s a very Mondo, very fierce kind of look. He not only has a great eye for pattern and color, he has a great eye for mixing them in eye-catching ways.
Lining the jacket with that perfectly matched purple really unified it and made it look rich and well made.
That little detail on the front of the skirt gives it some interest and makes it seem a little modern. Which is good, because one of our issues with this look is that it does lean slightly toward being a little dated. It has almost a ’90s feel with the striped top and the form-fitting skirt hitting halfway up the thigh. Something about the proportions and colors read a little Melrose Place to us.
This is definitely an editorial look, so that hooks Nina; it’s colorful and form-fitting, so Heidi’s on your side; and it’s got a chic, New York kind of feel that totally gets Michael Kors’ pants to move. And they can be somewhat disappointingly predictable.
When you hear the words “Jackie Kennedy challenge” and you know these judges, then a cropped jacket and fitted skirt is probably the look they’re most likely to respond well to. We don’t want to use the dreaded word “expected,” but there were some more imaginative entries, in our opinion.
