Enh. We’re not really feeling it. Kudos to them for not returning to the Marilyn/Bardot well again because as inspirations go, those were played out a long time ago (even if they still show up now and then). But Mae West? Really? Not exactly a way to hook the young ladies, is it? How many under-30s have any idea who Mae West was? How long has it been since she had any influence on the culture? It just seems like such an odd choice, especially because Mae West was never really considered a great beauty and whatever beauty she did have is of a style that’s way out of style. It doesn’t really translate. Maybe it’s just us, but we think Laetitia Casta looks far less attractive all done up in 80-year-old drag. And the pictures all look kind of flat and stagey.
We could be wrong. You tell us. If you were flipping through Harper’s Bazaar, would you stop and look at this editorial?
