What is a fashion must? Blazers, blazers, blazers!!!
What are your strengths as a designer? I can illustrate a beautiful sketch and bring it to life as a garment.
What’s influenced your designs over the years? The decayed beauty of abandoned asylums, or morgues. My manifesto is to ”destroy, to create.”
What fashion faux pas drives you crazy? Socks with sandals. I mean, what the hell is going through people’s heads when they do this?!
Style Icon: Lady Gaga and Santogold
If you weren’t designing, you’d be . . . A fashion illustrator.
Project Runway challenge you wish they’d bring back for your season? The hardware store challenge.
Favorite Past Project Runway Designer(s): Christian Siriano, Season 4, Seth Aaron Henderson and Ben Chmura, Season 7
While other teens her age were shopping for their prom dress, April decided to get creative and make her own. It was then that she realized her potential as a designer and pursued a bachelor’s degree in fashion design at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). During her time in college, among juried collections of undergraduate and graduate student work, two of the garments she designed were chosen to be a part of the 2010 SCAD annual fashion show. April’s designs are inspired by the decayed beauty of asylums and morgues which allow her to be able to design in a dark, romantic way.
Why she’ll win?
April believes she will win because she is the most creative individual who is young and motivated. She is always ready to take on challenges and make them her own.
“April believes she will win because she is the most creative individual who is young and motivated?” What? T Lo is not impressed with that response, which looks like it was written by a drunk person who is young and drunk.
She WAS drunk! We’re looking forward to drunken middle-of-the-night rants because we get a tiny little bitch vibe off her.
That’s weird. None of them seemed the slightest interested in her work. And yet they cast her.
Birthplace/Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Current Home: Palm Desert, CA
Current occupation? Fashion designer.
Favorite Designer(s): Eli Saab, Tom Ford, Valentino, Donatella Versace, Basil Soda
Style Icon: Sarah Jessica Parker
What is a fashion must? A reallllly amazing, slimming jacket in black!
What are your strengths as a designer? Draping, fit and my time to deliver a finished garment.
What are your weaknesses as a designer? Invisible zippers, men’s clothing, some tailored pants.
What’s influenced your designs over the years? In the past, low-cut styles from Valentino and Versace. Now, more structured styles like YSL.
What fashion faux pas drives you crazy? ‘Muffin tops,” large women in tight shirts with skinny jeans.
Project Runway challenge you hope they bring back for your season? I would’ve kicked ass on the Sarah Jessica Parker ”Bitten” challenge or the drag-queen one!
Favorite Past Project Runway Designer(s): Christian Siriano, Season 4 Nick Verreos, Season 2 and my heart goes to Rami Kashou, Season 4; what a man!
Michael has been designing and sketching dresses since he was four years old. After befriending a seamstress at 14, he reached a turning point in his life where he was able to transform his one-dimensional sketches on paper, to three-dimensional, wearable pieces. He was instantly hooked and knew that he would spend the rest of his life as a fashion designer. He has no formal training in design but simply learned to first sew by hand, then advanced to making dresses on an industrial sewing machine. Today, Michael is living his dream as a fashion designer and most recently won a Project ASID Award for designing a dress made of upholstery and wallpaper.
Why he’ll win?
Michael knows the business and how to appeal to a buyer’s eye. He lives, sleeps, eats, drinks fashion and feels that without a doubt, he is the best.
Without even looking at his portfolio, we read all that and thought “Tacky queen.”
Why do they always want to show us what’s in their refrigerator? Is anyone really dying to know that?
Nick Verreos, Part 2. Amirite? With a skosh of Rami-style draping.
That’s so weird. His portfolio doesn’t look anything like the stuff he showed during his audition. We don’t LOVE the dresses he showed the judges but they were better than this.
